They better not portray Her Majesty Elizabeth II as black because she's my favorite. They should have a show where Justin Trudeau is played by a black actor. JT has already played himself as black in real life, as well.

Just a little bit of historical revisionism. They always used to do that in the Eastern Block cinema, too. A simple traitor or a highwayman was made into a working class hero, here and there. A simple inter party assassination turned the victim into the martyr for the cause, etc. Truly there is nothing new under the Sun.

I walked into one of those College Street electronics shops a few years ago and the brown guy behind the counter had blue eyes.

Have you watched the show?

There is nothing accurate about the show.

There are all sorts of back nobles.

The soundtrack features modern hip hop/pop performed on classical instruments.

This is a drama about rumour, scandal, romance and intrigue.

It hints at zero attempt of being historically accurate in any way shape or form. Think Hamilton or Romeo and Juliet the dicaprio version.

I think it depends what the producers are aiming for. Clearly a show which aims to scrupulously recreate a historic milieu will fall apart with non traditional casting. Think Downton Abbey with non-white leads for the Upper Class. It would destroy the illusion regardless of the quality of the performance.

If the show is a fantasy, then why not? It doesn't aim to be realistic.

Well, they did a quick transgender switch in "The Aeronauts", where Henry Coxwell (historical figure) transformed into a female (Amelia Wren, fictional character) to help and save the life of James Glaisher (also a historical figure) during their record breaking, high altitude balloon flight in 1862.

So, when it comes to history revisionism, it's a free for all for the politically motivated libertarian lefties.

Hamilton, OK, that's historical fiction. Romeo and Juliet, on the other hand, is a play and originally fictional as it was written by Shakespeare more than 500 years ago.

Sooner or later, there will be a backlash against having too many black characters. This may be what happened to the much-hyped "Tenet" which turned out to be an expensive flop, although it was directed by Christopher Nolan.

Did you happen to read the Historical Fiction by Newt Gingrich and some guy named Forschen (SP?) where the South won the Civil War? How about The Turner Diaries? Lefties got no monopoly...

Have you noticed lately, with this racial revising of history, and constant protesting, that the "woke" left and BLMers are trying to get people to both forget what happened in history. While at the same time, never ever let people forget what happened in history.
It's stupid. Either black people were oppressed and segregated for 200 years, or they weren't.
Don't constantly protest about the oppression of the past, and then make historical films depicting complete inclusion.
Not only is it just dumb, but it sends a mixed message, and dilutes your stance.
