I wonder how many people ever knew where the hell Saskatoon was. LOL. I was born there. My favourite songs by them. American Woman and These Eyes. Too bad they hated each other and broke up. Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings were greatThe Foreman in Blazzing Saddles asks, " how bout a good ol Patriotic Canadian song".
You should have seen how talented Burton was as a teenager. I used to see him every weekend afternoon with his band The Deverons at The Holiday Sun & Swim Club in Winnipeg in the 60's, before he replaced Chad Allen as the vocalist in the group that then became The Guess Who.I wonder how many people ever knew where the hell Saskatoon was. Randy Bachman left the Guess Who because he was a Mormon and disagreed with his bandmates lifestyle of partying, drugs and girls...Bachman and Burton Cummings have gotten together over the years for tours but have split up a couple of times because of disagreements over songwriting and royalty issues.Chad Allen became a "strictly commercial" money producer with Loverboy and the odious American wannabe Bryan Adams. I give Loverboy the benefit of the doubt since Mike Reno had the thankless task of replacing Buzz Sherman in Moxy. I saw them at Humber College and Reno didn't fare too well. He split Toronto for Vancouver not long after that.
Randy Bachman left The Guess Who after he completed the American Woman album, he had been diagnosed as a diabetic. Burton Cummings was initially hurt by being compared to Jim Morrison, which he eventually put to shame.
When they collaborated they were strong. Bachman wrote about his health issues, Cummings wrote New Mother Nature.
Randy Bachman said on the Vinyl Cafe that he had to leave The Guess Who because his health was failing. I didn't know he was a Mormon. I noticed that the CBC Radio Show has been renamed to Vinyl Tap.Randy Bachman left the Guess Who because he was a Mormon and disagreed with his bandmates lifestyle of partying, drugs and girls..
The first 2 rock albums I ever owned were given to me one Christmas many years ago- Led Zeppelin I and The Allman Brothers Band. This was my favorite track.
That was a great hit. In later years after their breakup, I saw Burton Cummings up close performing at a curling club called Annandale in Pickering, playing piano and singing solo. He sure had a powerful voice. He enjoyed imitating Gordon Lightfoot's voice singing Gord's songs. You should have seen how talented Burton was as a teenager. Chad was the lead singer in Chad Allen & The Expressions, with Randy Bachman on his Gretsch 6120 guitar (despite the Rickenbacker he's holding in the video below). Their big hit was Shakin' All Over, a cover of a British hit by Johnny Kidd & The Pirates.
Burton's band would play outdoors poolside. Btw that restaurant and pool complex was owned by the same guy who started up Druxie's later in Toronto.
