As I understand it, if you are dealing with a large volume of data, your only practical alternatives are to upload to a sharing cloud site, or put it on a thumb drive and send the drive physically. Do IT specialists (like yourself) say that cloud services are definitely more secure than a physical transfer? I'd be surprised if they did.
