When travel really opens...would you?

I’m still apprehensive about the idea but REALLY need the Caribbean getaway to recover from this COVID shit. Are Caribbean hotels any less safe than the grocery store or gym? Are there still buffets? Are cleaning staff doing anything different?

Would you jump on a plane as soon as the trip you want is available or would you just wait out the possibility of a second wave?

I would wait. not so much for my sake (I suspect I might already have caught Covid) but that everyone else is afraid. just like living in Toronto now is pretty shitty (no bars, no gyms, lineups to get in everywhere, no sports etc) the same is true for other places. you wouldn't be able to experience half of what you usually would so what's the point.

I would love to travel abroad but the question is how will it look like? We go on vacation to get away from stress. But the quarantine measures plus all the hassle of screening, temperature checks, tests etc would just make the experience uncomfortable imo.

I’d rather wait until at least next spring. Hopefully by then there’s a vaccine but even if there isn’t the situation should be much more stable than it is currently.

I've cancelled everything and booked a trip around Ontario for a couple of weeks. It's nice to get out, but I'm not in any hurry to go anywhere far.

Ask yourself this: would you be willing to be hospitalized in whatever place you choose to travel?

I'm planning a trip to Easter Island, but there's no fucking way I'm going until it's all clear. If I'm going to need hospitalization, I would not want it to be there or in Chile.

Now where I go might not be the same as before the pandemic. Airlines are going to be charging more, so car trips might make more sense. Large resorts may not be in demand like before. If they have hundreds of room but have to restrict pool and restaurant capacity then waiting in line isn’t a vacation.
We have four months good weather, four months iffy, and four months cold. I’ll still live my life, and evaluate risks Out there.

You mentioned health insurance. I wonder if insurance companies would cover medical expenses if you contracted Covid-19? My guess is no. Does anyone know the answer to this.

Last reports I saw were insurance companies were not covering it for Canadians traveling Internationally. There may be some individual companies who will at a premium depending on destination.
Especially for wealthy clients who need to travel.

No way I leave until this gets alot better.

I hope Canada institutes it. Until this mutates down to common flu it's too dangerous to mess with.

I have resigned myself to no international travel for the foreseeable future. Hell no point going to stay anywhere in Canada until restaurants and tourist sites are open.

I look at it as a first world problem. I'm safe, secure, fed, employed and banking cash for now. That's one hell of alot better than most of the world.

I’m just waiting for things to de escalate. Once I can freely visit a restaurant or bar here without all the mundane restrictions then I’d feel it’s the right time to travel abroad. Travelling is supposed to be about getting away from stress not adding more of it.

But I believe there will a segment of society that will travel regardless, I have already heard of tour agencies booking trips in October and I know a girl that just recently travelled to Cancun. Hope they cooperate with the government in making sure they are taking the right safety measures to protect everyone.

Agreed. I stayed in a downtown hotel one night earlier this week. Everything was 'safe' but sterile (literally and figuratively).

I believe there will a segment of society that will travel regardless.
Hope they cooperate with the government in making sure they are taking the right safety measures to protect everyone.

The people intent on travelling now are precisely the same people that will refuse to follow any kind of self-isolation measures on return.
