It may be true there might be anti-cerb pro lockdown people but the two do not go hand in hand. Yes, I am pro lock down (more so now as we see the Sweden failure - anti lockdowns do not end up helping the economy anyway) and thus pro cerb.it is funny to see the anti-CERB people are the same one that defend the lockdowns that destroy the economy in the first place. and then whine and complain that people are using CERB to make ends meet. you cannot have it both ways
So true, I'm really sick of the John Hamm Skip the Dishes commercials. If you use the service, you're paying double overhead. The discussion really boils down to ... why pay 60 dollars for ONE MEAL in a restaurant, when you can buy 60 dollars of food in the grocery store and get a weeks worth of food.
Why would you give a basic income to a person who makes $500 000 a year? The idea of basic universal income is a good one if implemented correctly.
1) It must be truly universal. I.e., you get it regardless if you are unemployed or making $500,000 a year. This way it has less effect on the desire to work and significantly reduces the administrative costs
2) It should be enough to live on without additional work somewhere where it does not take a space of a person who actually wants to work,. i.e,. in a small towns far away from big cities where rent is cheap. It should not be enough to live in Toronto or even a smaller cities. So, $2000 seems to be excessive. $1500 ($700 rent + $800 for the rest) seems like more than enough to cover shelter (far away from a large city), food, and internet access.
Because it is UNIVERSAL income. Naturally, this money comes from taxes, and the person who makes $500,000 a year pays LOTS of taxes. This universal income is also taxable, so, he will have to pay half of it back as taxes anyway. The reason to pay universal income to anyone regardless of their income is not to distort the people's desire to work, i.e., not to have a choice to work for $40,000 a year or to stay home for $18,000. With $1,500/month universal income, $18,000/year is guaranteed, and anything you earn on top of it is yours (after the income tax, of course). It reduces the amount of fraud (there is no need to under-report your actual income) and lots of $$$ can be saved on administrative costs that are now paid to process and verify all the claims. Why would you give a basic income to a person who makes $500 000 a year?
Where would all this money came from?
There's much muttering that this idea is a Universal benefit....yet if we don't give it to wage earners of over 60k. How, is that 'universal'?Because it is UNIVERSAL income. I am both anti welfare (I mean CERB) and think the lockdown is a joke and Covid is a hoaxit is funny to see the anti-CERB people are the same one that defend the lockdowns that destroy the economy in the first place. and then whine and complain that people are using CERB to make ends meet. you cannot have it both ways
Do you honestly believe that there is enough money to give everyone in Canada $18,000/year?Because it is UNIVERSAL income. Naturally, this money comes from taxes, and the person who makes $500,000 a year pays LOTS of taxes. This universal income is also taxable, so, he will have to pay half of it back as taxes anyway. This doesn’t make sense if you believe that covid is a hoax then why shouldn’t the ppl (the government) who put on the hoax not pay us? Weather it’s CERB or whatever other relief program?I am both anti welfare (I mean CERB) and think the lockdown is a joke and Covid is a hoax
Sixty dollars for a week of groceries?? What the hell are you eating? Is it flour, potatoes, and ground beef?? Now that I think about it, that would only cost $30 for the week. The discussion really boils down to ... why pay 60 dollars for ONE MEAL in a restaurant, when you can buy 60 dollars of food in the grocery store and get a weeks worth of food.
Bro, Flour is the cheapest calorie per dollar. My average is 8 dollars a day. Sometimes I have to eat cheap, like pasta & ketchup or a bag of chips.
Sometimes I count the calories in my groceries versus the price, so I can average it to 8 dollars.
Like if something has 2,000 calories and costs 4 dollars ( cookies & chips ), then I can buy something that has 1,400 calories ( hamburgers ) and costs 12 dollars.
I eat about1,700 calories per day. So it averages to 8.
I'm curious how effective his advertising really is.So true, I'm really sick of the John Hamm Skip the Dishes commercials. If you use the service, you're paying double overhead.
