Of course it is not fair for the innocent. But when it comes to police dealing with suspected criminals or a bunch of guys with sleeveless t-shorts late at night, the unconditional probability that theses guys are violent increases a lot. Assuming it increases in the same proportions for white and black, you may face that unconditional (i.e., regardless of the race) probability of violence be about 5%. Now these conditional probabilities matter a lot and may be the difference between life and dearth. Noone see police going up to black dudes on the street and beating them up. It is when the suspect resist arrest, more force is used against black guys because now this conditional probability is important a lot.
The question is: what should we do to make sure the 99% of law-abiding black people do not suffer from this racial profiling. It seams that current media support the view of "abandon racial profiling". But racial profiling is rational and saves lives. Te only way to help 99% of law-abiding blacks is to eliminate the reason for racial profiling, i.e., to make the conditional (on race) probability of being violent criminals to be the same among whites and black. There are two ways to do it: have more white people commit crimes or have less black people commit crimes. I, personally, think the latter is the way to go. So, black communicates must work with police to help[ catch criminals, BLM must go into black communities and protest against violence their. During BLM protests, BLM shoudl identify violent protesters who damage properties, document it, turn them to police, and demand harsh punishment.
