It's nothing more than symbolic. The Senate won't get enough votes needed to approve since all Republicans oppose it. And even if they somehow did, Trump said he would veto it.

A House bill to change the constitution? Senate will never bring that up for a vote lol

DC was designed to be a temporary place where politicians would go for a short period of time - and then go back home to live under the laws they created. DC was created for the sole purpose of the ability to govern all while at the same time having no allegiance(s) to any one state or states.

DC is also 90 percent Democrat so it's no wonder they are trying this last ditch effort just in time for elections. Pelosi pandering for votes. Shocking - NOT!

DC has 3 electoral votes and always votes blue. How does becoming a state (which the Dems knew would never happen) affect this?

The bill isn't changing the constitution (except trying to overturn the 23rd amendment once in place). It just redefines the District part. The District would now just be the Capitol, White House and other Federal buildings. Places no one lives. (The President is always considered from somewhere else while living in the white house.)

The new state would be 3 electoral votes - (2 senate, 1 rep) and would now also have voting power in Congress. It seems the legislation would start the process of overturning the 23rd amendment and so erase the extra electoral college votes that the now empty District of Columbia would have. I'd have to see the full text to see what they are proposing in the meantime. I would just give those 3 votes to whoever won the popular vote and not try to force an amendment through.

Suppose I should have been more specific here in terms of Dems 'TRYING" a back door attempt at 'trying' to change the constitution by way of making DC a State.

You said you wanted to read the bill??? Here is it, I look forward to your analysis. https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/51 Disclosure: In the Bill they propose the Mayor of Washington DC would be the Governor of this 'new state'. Mayor Bowser being a governor? She can't even run a city. Schools low performance, riots everywhere. LOL

That’s what this Bill does. The federal buildings where no one lives would be designated “the capital.” The surrounding area where the 700 thousand + residents of DC reside would become a state and they would have representation in the Senate.

Naturally, the GOP attempts to suppress the votes of those with whom they disagree. SSDD
