The second cop, Seguin, should not have been working if there were criminal charges pending. Management at the police headquarters should be held accountable for that.

The first cop exercised tremendous restraint. Ever occur to you that the reason the chief wasn't driving to begin with and was so confrontational was because he was drunk? First cop did nothing to indicate he was racist. Legal stop according to the Alberta driving laws.

Case against the chief was possibly dropped by Crown Counsel because they discovered criminal charges were pending against Seguin, so any evidence he would have provided could not be considered credible. That doesn't mean the chief was innocent. That's likely why charges were stayed, and not dismissed.
He told the Chiefs wife that her plate was expired so she could not drive the car. Not sure exactly how that was said, but he would be in a fair position to say you can drive the car and I will ticket you or you can take a cab and pick it up tomorrow. if he was gonna write a ticket and prevent them fromm driving then that is not justified. I know the Chief was being a dick, but by job discription the cops deal with dickheads all the time. The actual phyical altercation with the first cop I agree was ok and he showed restraint. The second one is guilty of assault. First one is guilty of condoning it and not stopping it.

Chief deserved a smack or 2 upside the head. The second cop was a bit too aggressive. The chief should still get charged...what an asshat. It's too bad some reserves don't have better role models in leadership positions. We're more and more setting up a system where resisting arrest is deemed ok/almost promoted if you will, which will: a) lead to more police getting hurt - not good b) lead to more physical interactions between police and suspects (you'd think society would want the opposite?).
Cops are not allowed to smack or touch ANYONE unless its in self defence or arresting someone.

I think you should do some reading on laws. It's obvious that you don't know how they are applied based on the corrections I've already made to your assumptions.

Cops can ticket for no insurance AND tow the vehicle. Public access area. Ever occur to you if the cop was being a nice guy and didn't ticket and tow, that the female or chief could take a taxi around the block and come back to the car and drive it way? What you think should have happened, and what the real options are under the law are two completely different things.

You don't have any street smarts. Might not be your fault because you grew up in a good neighbourhood and lack the sixth sense of knowing how devious people can be. However, you need to be alive to the fact that lots of people aren't fine upstanding citizens. For those of us who grew up in a tough neighbourhood, it's a lot more obvious the Chief got what was coming to him.

It's also obvious you've never been in a fight, or know how to fight, because you're oblivious to how the Chief was acting.

Again, the charges were stayed, not dismissed.

I agree with poorboy.

The first cop demonstrated excellent de-escalation attempts when dealing with the Chief.

I suspect the cops was cruising the Casino parking lot looking for possibly impaired drivers to keep off the street. He likely used the expired plate to open the conversation to assess the sobriety of the driver. Seems she was not impaired. Had her drunken asshole husband been wise enough to keep his mouth shut, the cop may well have let the expired plate slide with a warning to renew the plates.

Once the Chief saw a cop he went haywire, was completely out of line and was BEGGING for a fight. I puckered up when I saw the Chief open the back door of the vehicle. It would not surprise me if he had gone for a gun or weapon.

The first Mountie was doing a good job of avoiding anyone getting hurt and waited for backup.

Then Mister BIGGER Asshole tough guy comes FLYING in to violently tackle the Chief. Now who knows what might have been said on the radio as to the threat but it seemd the first copper had things under control without violence.

Doesn't surprise me that the second Horseman was up on assault charges previously. What bothers me is that someone decided to let him carry on as an armed police officer. Whether he is convicted is a separate issue but I KNOW that someone knew if he was a violent type and the previous assault charges were reasonably founded. in other words, other cops KNEW if he was prone to violence. anger, assault etc. And if they didn't tell their Supervisor that this guy was a danger, or the Supervisor knew he was a violent type, then they are part of the problem.

It really bothers me that the bad cops are so well and unconditionally protected by good police officers.
