Racism in the spas.

The Brass Club has been drawn into the troubles south of the border. One of the massage attendants there made a comment about the rioting which was seen as racist by several other MAs, and they called out Jessica for not firing her. Jessica ended up firing the attendant who made the racist comment and the three who called her out online. Now there's all kinds of back and forth comments, re-posted private conversations, etc. There's a lot of talk about how systemic the racist attitudes are in the clubs, both in tolerating racist clients and in not hiring many black/ethnic MAs, and also how some providers refuse to see black clients.

The whole thing is a minefield, and not saying anything isn't good enough for a lot of the people talking. Silence is complicity, etc.

It's going to be a long summer.

It's a sensitive societal issue especially during these heightened times. So it is not just limited to this or that particular institution.

Every every institution have these issues. It's if they took the time and effort to address it, educate before things get out of hand.

One MAs retweet of the following was what started the issue:

maybe 1 retweeted it, but it was afterwards that they accused Jess as a racists in public twitter.

that's what got them fired.

nobody should ever do that, and not expect anything to happen, especially if its your boss that your accusing.

I agree with what Jess did 100%

From what I was able to read and see I agree with your assessment.
Tho there must have been some unresolved issues and tensions that eventually led to this.
Whenever I visit I do see that there are cliques within the club due to the diversity of personalities.
Hopefully Jess will work on maintaining everyone more harmoniously.

I'll be standing in solidarity with the fired workers (and the anti-racist movement in general) and blacklisting Brass. I had never been, but it was on my list of things to try.

randall_stevens, why do you think there's any value in pointing out what people can "expect to happen"?

If I walk into a klan rally and scream that they're racist scum I can expect to get the shit kicked out of me.

Your post amounts to a recommendation to people to stay quiet when they observe racism in their workplace.

Ok, I found and read the receipts. I gotta say I support the 3 girls for calling out the racist among them. Jessica did not take it seriously at first and they understandably took it live. Working conditions sound quite awful at Brass so fuck them.

If you were in any other workplace and did what they did, you would be fired. This should be no different.

The drama scale in most spas must be off the charts on a good day, so if the owners need to clean house to get rid of it, then it's a good idea.

Again, a completely pointless observation. You literally just described a probabilistic outcome and concluded "Thus, it should be so," without a hint of analysis regarding whether it is a good or bad outcome.

Corporations/bosses can never be counted on to ethically regulate their own conduct, and whistleblowers are one of the few means of exposing them and initiating change.

I dont see why your making a big deal about this?

As I stated, it was wrong for what the former ladies posted, and accusing Jess in public twitter is wrong, and Jess did the right thing by firing them.

As ottawafitguy said, it would happen at any workplace. Majority if not all work places have a zero tolerance against this topic, and you do, you will most likely lose your job if you did.

What the ladies did (although i didn't see the actual posts), they got what they deserved.

Nobody asked you to agree with what I said, you have every right to agree or disagree.

I still stand 100% with Jessica

Here's a tip: employers most often don't care about changing unless it affects their bottom line.

I saw the posts. These girls not only made everything public, they also basically harrassed Jessica and had people piling on to try to support their narrative. I don't see how any employee could expect to have a job after doing that to the person signing their cheques and scheduling their shifts.

Would you expect someone who has been publicly insulted online without any shred of proof - who owns the business - to suddenly turn around and say all of what happened to her is okay and keep the girls employed there? You must work in a fantasy land.

They took it public because Jessica was completely ignoring the issue. Several girls with good reputations have called out Brass and Jessica.

I can't understand why one club is being attacked with racism. I have been following this subject of racism in Ottawa for years and it is very disappointing. It has been, and is going on in every, and I mean every strip club in Ottawa and Gatineau for years. I have interacted with many Black SW over my time. I am not racist and the girls I have seen can attest to that. But I can't count the number of times that a girl at a strip club has told me that "they limit the number of black girls to 2 or 3." It is unfortunate, but it is everywhere. If you're going to attack---attack them all.

I'd be willing to bet that it is financially motivated rather than actually racist. Providers who are POC likely don't get as many customers as white girls (I'm sure there are exceptions, but I'm talking majority). Plus, the providers in Ottawa are likely about 80% white in the first place? I can probably count on two hands MAs who work at Brass, CMJ and ALO who aren't white or Asian. Does that mean that the owners are racist or that there simply isn't a market to hire them?

As for calling out Jessica, I go back to my original point. Whether or not you're right, you can't expect to insult your employer and have a job at the end of the day.

I would ask first, is it because they don't hire or because there is not as many willing to be MA ?

Second, I would point out that these girls that are now crying out loud were pretty quiet when they saw "all those supposedly racist comment" .
If they were soooo against racism, they still had the choice to complain and if nothing was done, go work else where, like CMj, ALO, etc.
They were pretty quiet from what I can see and now it WOW, Brass is full of racist and the owner is racist...

Being against racism is not something you suddenly become because it is a popular, or it fit you when you feel it.
It should be every day of your live...
