I am a long time admirer of Doctor Jane Philpott.
As a young doctor she went to Africa to do "God's Work". While there she experienced the horrible tragedy of losing her young daughter.
"The family was living in Niger, in western Africa, where Dr. Philpott was practising medicine and helping train local health workers. Emily was not yet three years old, and the hospital where she could have received live-saving injectable penicillin was two hours away.
"The aggressive infection was going to win the race," Dr. Philpott wrote in a heartbreaking blog post several years ago. "Less than an hour into our journey, precious Emily had a seizure and then she stopped breathing. It was the most horrible moment of my life.""
Back in Canada she joined the Liberal Party and was Minister of Indigenous Services (previously Health) when she quit the cabinet in early 2019, valuing personal integrity above party politics.
Currently, she is again doing "God's Work" in Markham joining the many other front line medical personnel battling this terrible virus.
I am not an overly religious person but I hope God will continue to give Doctor Philpott the strength to continue to do her good work for a long long time.
