GTA & Thereabouts...
Should International Travel be Banned? or severely restricted only to the Elite? Mandatory quarantines after each flight?

Only 100 years ago, it would be ridiculous to think that the working class should be able travel to a foreign land in less than a day. International tourism is a luxury.

Zoom Meetings and FaceTime are mainstream. People just stare at their phones anyways...

International travel into the U.S. and Canada absolutely should be banned. Except for hot chicks seeking work as MPAs and SPs.

For now until a vaccine is available it's going to be curtailed with mandatory 2week quarenteen.

I'm already giving up vacation plans. Instead I'm looking at Niagara on the Lake B+B's and maybe a road trip east. Probably a few gambling overnights in Niagara Falls.

I will bank some cash for when things are lifted.

No point whining about it. Just change it up and maybe discover a place locally.

After all of this is done and accounted for, working class will have no money to travel. You will only be allowed to travel if you own one of these.

Just like China has for the For the first little while we should institute a 14 day enforced quarantine for anyone coming into our country at their own expense.

There should be a 14 day quarantine when you arrive in a new Country (stay in the same hotel room for 14 days without seeing foot out the door), then have your holiday, then do another 14 day quarantine when you arrive home in Canada. That will ensure that there is no international travel until a vaccine is found.

The Country you are flying into needs to know you are clean. Canada needs to know you are clean until you can join the rest of Society here.

Part of the requirement would be allowing the Government to track your movements once you return as suggested by Dr. Tam, say with a bracelet.

BY the time the vaccine is found the virus will mutate and we will be back at the beginning again. It's a gift that keeps on giving. The common flu never disappears, it comes back every year.

Let's hope they do find a vaccine for Covid-19 and it vanishes like the polio and small pox did but it will not happen over night.

Why exaggerate and make it more than it is. If you test positive for polio or small pox you are not told to go home and drink lots of fluids. Like you are when you test positive for Covid-19.

What would they tell you? I only know one person that has/had polio, obviously this person is far older than I am...they are still alive.

I would hope that they are treated in a healthcare setting.

When they contracted it, not sure, it was decades ago, many many in fact. Typical muscle paralysis was the end result. They never let the handicap stand in their way. Like with C-19, live goes on.

After speaking with someone earlier in the week who's field this is, one positive about this virus is it hasn't mutated much. So if a vaccine is developed(way more complex than any flu) hopefully this is one less aspect to worry about. Someone did ask him a question about the flu & he talked a little bit about how long H1N1 (Spanish Flu) circulated. Holy fack this thing has been around 100+ years & ran almost 40years until being knocked out by H2N2. I had no idea that swine flu was a direct descendant of avian flu 90 years previous

I put off going to China back in late February, now I have to go sometime in June & really not looking forward to it! Not sure if the mandatory quarantine will still be in place or if a 48hr preflight negative test will have any merit coming from Canada. Really don't want to sit for 14 days quarantined in China...Bahama's or Hawaii no problem!

You are blessed with being associated with people of higher learning. I on the other hand use a little of common sense.

If it's treated by doctors like a common flu, if the symptoms are same as common flu, if mortality rate from complications is same as common flue, it's a common flue. And so far all flu vaccines are not that great. They always say that this year vaccine is based on last year virus but this year the virus can be slightly different and the vaccine might work.

Also I do not trust the government and health officials one bit. In light of a total cluster fuck official response from the beginning of this fiasco.

Common sense is a great attribute Juan, no argument there. But I'll have to say one thing that seemed to piss this guy off is when people compared it to the flu. He said the flu is a completely different animal & with 100+ years of research we understand it & can predict it with some degree of accuracy. Human corona viruses he said are something not very well understood at this point.

And yes right now other than Remdesivir (which I think they will only prescribe to the very worst cases) the only thing helping you is you! Our bodies are amazing machines that fight battles with germs everyday, this one is just a little more complex for some to fight.

We agree that Covid-19 isn't the common flu, as your logic shows since none of the first three statements are true.

Antivirals are used early because they are more effective early in the course of the disease. If remdesivr works it will not be reserved for worst cases.

I would be skeptical of remdesivr, though. Gilead has lots of connections with the Trump white house and Trump loves to bump contracts and such to "loyal" people.

As long as the only good reports are coming from the company and the White House they should be treated as marketing. It may work. As studies come in from elsewhere we will no more. Just be a bit more skeptical of these guys so long as the white house is the one pushing them.
