This one feels more like they found some skeletons in his closet a bit late, or someone came forward looking to cash in on his new found fortune and the team decided to cut bait immediately. Even though most issues start and end in Ottawa with Melnyk's fingerprints everywhere, this one is something different. Ottawa even engaged the league office before taking quick action, not something an owner-driven move would do. Ottawa has had so much bad press off-ice, this may simply be a move to head off more bad press while they are trying to save and re-baseline the franchise business-wise.

Until that happens they will just be an NHL development team for the rest of the league.

When I think of the talent that has moved through there in since Melnyk took the reins it's depressing.

And to think they were within a goal of reaching the finals a few years ago......
