Defense, yes. But no team can live by defense alone. Without Kawhi's offense last year, the Raptors would not have made it to the top. And this year, to defeat elite teams, they need Marc Gasol to produce around 15 points. As for McCaw, his spindly, scrawny, match stick frame does not inspire confidence. Nick Nurse is bunkers to play McCaw over Terrence Davis and Hollis Jefferson. Mighty joke.
McCaw has excellent size for a SG. Almost identical body as Jamario Moon. He is a world class athlete who is only 2 games back from leg surgery. Nick Nurse HATES mistakes and McCaw rarely turns the ball over or blows his assignments. I get it that McCaw "can't shoot", but it seems more psychological than physical. Compared to RJH and Stanley Johnson, McCaw is by far the mostly likely to click and become a legit 3 + D specialist. That's why he got an $8 million 2 year deal from Masai.

generally speaking TD and RHJ don't close out tight games.....OG does...however McCaw closed out the Brooklyn game......sending OG a message maybe?

Latest Mafuzzy Chef, The Canadian Challenge with Kim Bairness.

That's awesome. How can you not love the Mafuzzy Chef? It's great having Serge in Toronto. Thanks IV for posting this. Note: It's Kate, not Kim Beirness. Love her.

Serge is a man of the world.

He's hosting a halftime Christmas Party on Christmas Day with Bianca, Bo, BizNasty but I don't know who the fourth guest is. And as he proves by the end of this clip, he's a real man.

Featuring the Spayside nectar.

Sorry Marc Gasol got hurt after only 8 minutes against Detroit last night. But it allowed Serge to play massive 31 minutes and contribute huge 25 points and 13 rebounds in a walkover. Wonder what the outcome would have been if Gasol had consumed his usual lion’s share of minutes according to the gospel of Nick Nurse. Meanwhile, in trying to justify his inane preference for McCaw (27 minutes - 2 points), Nick Nurse called him “high IQ guy.” If McCaw is what passes for high basketball IQ, then perhaps I should just stick to my engineering lol.

Norm Powell was seen leaving with his left shoulder in a sling. Would be a shame if his injury is severe: he has been playing so well lately. Perhaps Fred will return sooner rather than later to fill possible vacuum.

On another matter, Dwayne Casey could be on his last legs as Detroit coach. That team looks totally lost.
Agree with you on McCaw. Never saw any upside with him.

Nurse is going to have to rely on his bench now. KLo and Ibaka will be seeing lots of floor time, maybe too much. Like Khufu, I was disappointed that the Boucher, Davis, and RHJ did not get more playing time after Ibaka and KLo returned.
Assume Fred is ready to return, so Fred, KLo, Ibaka, and OG along with McCaw(?) start? or ?????
Hope Siakim and Powell aren't out too long, Gasol could be helped in late season with the time off.

Gutsy all around win for the Raptors against the Wizards. OG took 3 nasty bloody nose spills but continued to the end. Even McCaw chipped in 11 points, including a clutch 3 towards the end.
Wizard win was nuttin! Raps rally from 30 down.... Lowry with Boucher Miller Davis and Hollis-Jefferson kicked ass. Ya had to see it to believe it! That was speshul! Most pumped I've been since the playoffs last year.

With the season upon us, quick early recap of this third 10 game! With one left tonite in tough Indy, Raps will be at least 6-4 for this stretch. This stretch that's included a return of the Klaw, return of Serge and KLow with varying degrees, tough games at the beginning and somehow a 5 gamer with no one at the end of the bench! After that 1-3 start with Houst, philly and Kawhi all we could hope for was full strength. Just when we taught that corner was turned, my franchiseman and norm and pascal go down. Yet we've grinded two games out including that very Merry Christmas came early gift yesterday! Based on events and personnel staying above .500 for the next 10 gamer. Big Boston home/away to start, OKC twice (looking dangerous) Miami again, and Portland and another rerun of Demar on the other side. And yes, Christmas and New Year in there too!

On that, to you all, the very best of the season, Merry Christmas and a super Happy New Year to you and yours and may all your Raptor dreams come true.............especially Thewalkers sig...:applouse:

my jaw was dropped for the last 14 minutes of last nights game. Don't be too hard on McCaw. He hits big shots and plays great D. He's been very injury prone too. If he can stay healthy he's well worth having around. Boucher, Miller, and Davis can be the new bench mob with Holis Jefferson straddling the starting 5.
Looks like these guys will get more minutes for a few weeks. There's always a bright side to these injuries. Raps still have a shot at winning the East this year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New years boys.

McCaw is OK, decent D with some scoring. Probably will improve with playing time.
That group with KLo yesterday played some of the best D I have witnessed this year. They worked together and hustled their butts, I couldn't see or hear it on TV but they had to be communicating continually as the teamplay was awesome. They missed some open shots near the end of the game that indicated to me they were wearing down.
I liked Bouchard last year and this year he has taken another step forward. He still has lots of upside and the increased playing time should help him develop further.

Hope all of you have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year!

It was like 2 different teams. The sloppy one that played from mid-way through the first to the third. Then everything turned round again. Dallas started missing shots and the Raptors inspired by Lowry started making all of theirs.

It's deja vu all over again tonight, the Raps were trailing by 19 at the end of the 1st Q, now they are in the lead. Nick Nurse reminds me of Chuck Daly.

Interesting how Nurse is willing to try defenses that are usually used in high school. His box +1 in the playoffs, the triangle trap against Harden, the diamond and 1 against Dallas, ....

we're going to have a tough enough time time beating the top teams even with Siakam, Gasol and a hot Norman Powell. Can't compete so short handed, but it gives the young guns some playing time to develop.

Another tremendously gutsy performance from the Raptors tonight to beat Boston. Who would have thought back six or seven years ago when Raps acquired Lowry, a so-called problem child, that he would develop into the best Raptor of all time, and a tremendous leader. I would maintain that he is the best pro athlete in recent Toronto history. Alomar was great but only here 4 years, Sundin was sublime but didn’t win anything, Kawai was fantastic but he was one and done. Kyle should be the first Raptor to have a statue in Jurassic Park.

Imho Kawhai is the best athlete that has played for a Toronto Team. Kyle is by far the best leader on any Toronto team. Both Kawhai and Kyle deserve statues!! Should we start to consider Nick Nurse as the best coach in the NBA?

Surprised no negative comments after that stinker in Miami!

They stepped up against the Nets, but then, it was the Nets! Good bounce back game none the less. They will have their hands full with Portland.

Why is it so difficult to find information on the injured Raps? The two I care about, Siakim and Powell, no updates as to progress or potential return dates that I can find.

Powell and Thomas might be this week and Gasol and pascal are still 2-3 weeks out minimum. From various twit accounts from raps reporters during news scrums. Been a battle with all the missing bodies, but while skill level has fallen dramatically, effort and approach still laudable and Defense is still the backbone. When offense returns we'll be better off for it. Just gotta hang in there with what we've got. Let's go raps!

I'm surprised Norman will be back. I'm worried about how easy he hurts that shoulder. He was red hot before he got injured again. nice to have Thomas back as a tool against the zones too.
