My current cat is a male, before I always had females. He is a big cat, but even so a little portly as fixed males often are, and I am worried about diabetes.

I feed him only the best high protein, grain free food, some weeks I spend more on food for him than on myself. LOL

I grew up with a very affectionate Persian but have since become a dog person. My rule is you can’t shit in my house if you won’t come when I call you. The dog is the only one who doesn’t shit in the house and still comes.

Funny you started this thread, I have held off on getting a cat for years in hopes I might be able to get a dog. I always liked cats as well, but definitely more of a dog guy, and just tonight I decided I think I'm going to get a cat as a dog is just to much work and responsibility for a single person.

A friend of mine had this cat when we younger, and once in a while I would crash her place on the couch. I would sleep on my back on her couch, and in the middle of the night I would up with this cat face right in my face purring. Then it would pat my eyes with it's claws for like 5 or 10 minutes, then rest on my stomach...lol.

There was a guy on here who once posted that taking in a stray saved his life. Gave him a reason to live.

This is a common misconception.

Cats generally know their names, and will come when you call them. Although sometimes they are too busy with something or a little hard of hearing.

My cat actually come when I call him outside. Not in the house, which may be logical to him.

PS: Give your cat a name with an I in. Studies have shown they easier recognize names with an I in. Tiger, Prince etc are good names.

I also think it's funny when cats knead on you. There way of telling you "you are mine, we belong together, and no other cat can share you with me"..lol.

I used to call my one cat from my backyard and no matter where he was in the house he would run to the window and jump on the ledge. Pure gold.

As for the name thing. I had read that they responded best to names that end in ''y''. So I always went with that theory. Now you have me wondering.

Your walls must be paper thin if your cat can hear you from inside the house :D

I'm happy to report that the cat formerly know as Factory Cat has gone from near death to the warrior Fabrizio.

When Michael Jamison first rescued Factory Cat he looked like a shriveled Pig Pen. I didn't think he'd survive more than a couple of weeks. First he had to clean the accumulated dirt off him, he looked gray. Then he had to get him used to eating meat, he had to kill to survive, dead meat confused him. Watch the opening 2 minutes.

Interesting cat fact: Meowing is an interesting vocalization in that adult cats don't actually meow at each other, just at people. Kittens meow to let their mother know they're cold or hungry, but once they get a bit older, cats no longer meow to other cats.

Cats are so fucking cool!

Ours just jumped up in front of me for a face nuzzle, purred loudly, gave me lots of kitty love, then turned, sniffed my Scotch, and sneezed in it.

Furry lovable bastards. Anyone else have a love/hate relationship with them?
BossN. When you sniff your scotch it is a bouquet. For your cat it was a nasal irritant, hence the sneeze.

Cats and I suppose dogs, have ESP. Had a cat who would run to the window when the girlfriend was within 10 minutes of arriving home from work. She varied her arrival from day to day by as much as 4 hours. Cat always picked up on it when she was on her way.

I have a couple of cats and a dog. Could not imagine life without them.

I love animals more than I like people. No 4 legged animal has ever tried to fuck me around or hurt me. I can't say the same about 2 legged animals.
I like kids and dogs, adults and cats can go either way.

I love all warm blooded animals. Humans, reptiles and lizards not so much.
