nice posts whiteshaft...now alittle something "tougher"...…..as a pimply faced white boy teen I was listening to this rather than the Beatles and the English Invasion

Nice post the ogibowt! I found myself following the rhythm tip-toeing lol!
It seems we both grew up in the same era? As a teen, I was more drawn to the soft and folksy types of music along with the black music of course.:yo:

probably the same age group, so ya, same era...my main passion as a teen was R&B and Soul and into my late teens and early 30,s I began to look back and I could appreciate Patsy Cline and Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, and later on ZZ Top and George Thoroughgood….but with some exceptions music from the 80,s onward held no interest to me......

One of my favorite genres, also, just House Music, mainly because it was during the time when I was clubbing a lot from 1987-1993. More on that later.
We were so lucky to grow up around that time. The height of hip house was anywhere from 1987-1991. Not to mention New Jack Swing which I will get into at a later date. Makes me feel sad for today's youth that they haven't had any exposure to the pop culture we had.

One of my all-time favorite, hip hop/electrofunk/dance tracks from Mantronix:

So classic. Got this on a compilation double CD called Hip Hop Don't Stop.

Since my early teens I gravitated towards hip hop/soul/r&b music and that is still my favorite today. Don't ask me why a white suburban kid became so interested in (generally) black music I can't explain it. Now as I got older I came to appreciate good music period - whether it be house, classic rock, heavy metal, jazz, new wave etc. I listen to it all today.

Yep, but I also have to thank my teen-aged kids for introducing me to Drake, Rhianna and The Weeeknd, and keeping this old fart current, LOL!

Don't know if these have already been posted, but here are some great, British Soul tracks from the late 80s, from Soul II Soul, that I love:

Dougie, im not as well rounded as you.....my musical tastes came from my dad, hearing in my household growing up, "race music", instead of mainstream stuff.....god bless him for playing Little Richard instead of Pat Boone ..lol......im almost 70 and I think you are in your 40,s ....while growing up, you , Dougie, gravitated to black music, because you loved the sound regardless of your skin color...….drive on and enjoy

I suspect Douglas probably got initiated to black music because of Whitney Houston. He was likely attracted to her....:very_drunk:
