The product isn’t stolen. If they didn’t get a scan of the product that’s their problem, it’s not up to me to make sure their bill is accurate.
Ya ... try telling that to the judge when you get busted for shoplifting. I doubt the judge will buy you defense.
They know people like you are doing this so they are paying attention. All it means is that you’re an inherently dishonest person.

Are you just a cheap to shop at wal-mart? Less labor cost help keeps prices down, which is why you're there in the first place.
Exactly. It costs a lot to hire, train and fire employees. Not to mention the increase in minimum wage. Some workers overly long lunch and smoke breaks, get sick, take vacations, etc. Machines do break down, but will always be more productive than human beings.

So I went to wall mart , and the registers had like 6 people waiting , so i go and see this self check out.
I couldn't get mine to run smooth at all so theres a staff member to help. The staff member basically did my whole order ,,
so i don't see a point in his being successful Finding the right codes for veges and fruit.
Is wally mart this cheap that they would take away 10 cashiers jobs.?
She is threatened she will lose her job.

Eventually they will become obsolete.

Have you tried using the mobile order on Tim Hortons and Mc Donald’s. Those workers know what’s coming.

I can scan through a buggy full of groceries faster and Fortinos and Loblaws then the cashiers can. You can see it in their eyes once they realize you can do it faster, better and don’t need to put up with any toxic attitudes.

It won’t come to the attention of the police or the court system.
I’ll claim the machine must have missed the product and the store employee will do it properly like they should have done in the first place.

Are they paying me for being a cashier?
I watched a short documentary on youtube regarding self-checkouts and you are right. We the consumer are working for free basically by self-checking our goods. Instead of paying an employee to cash us out they install an machine and get the customer to do it themselves which saves the company money. What they should really do is have a discount to anyone using the self checkout that way giving us incentive to use them (eg. save 5% off total bill if we self-checkout). Self checkouts is basically free labor for the store. I never use them no matter how hard employees try to heard me over there. Plus, I don't want peoples jobs cut

If I install a toilet for you I don’t ask you to tally the bill for me and make sure you included the price of the toilet in your fee.
Deliberately not scanning an item isn't stealing? Ho boy, not sure where you got your morals from.
Even with a cashier, you could use the same justification. "Oh, I didn't put that item on the conveyor...not my responsibility to make sure their bill is accurate."

Giving the customer a discount to use self checkout does not make sense. The margins are already super thin for retailers.

In a place far, far away
Don’t use checkout counters never will. If no cashier is available I’ll empty and return my cart so that I can get my quarter back...

i guess we we could all jerk off and then would not need all the lovely ladies that work as SPs...

Not as thin as the margins at the gas station. You will pay more for full service than if you pumped it yourself.
They could do something similar at retail stores.
You are always going to pay more for full service and if you’re on this board you should know that.

Blaming self checkouts like someone is putting a gun to your head to use them. Stop complaining. Don't like them then don't use them

I don't know the exact margins for other retailers vs gas stations, but they are both quite thin. Retailers with self-checkouts like Wal-Mart and grocery stores have enormous energy bills and have to take spoilage into account. After all, spoiled fresh food has to be disposed of at some point. Gas stations don't dispose of older gas as it would be a huge safety hazard. They are constantly topping up the storage tank with fresh fuel.

Many retailers allow you to order items online and you can pick it up in store or have it delivered. The same goes for grocery stores like Wal-Mart, Loblaws and Whole Foods where you order online and someone does the shopping for you. If that isn't "full service" enough for you then what is? Or maybe you're expecting that an employee take you through the store.

I was going to argue they weren't until I was in walmart today and half weren't working, 2 people standing waiting for the attendant. Some people don't even realize ones that are open. They tried them years ago and went away from them. I think it will happen again. People go through with too many items and usually have a problem.

I like them for when I’m making purchases I don’t want the check out clerk to judge me for LOL

BUT, last week I was trying to buy a single green apple at a Shoppers Drug Mart and couldn’t figure out how to actually scan it.. causing me to tap “assistance required”. Oop

I love self checkouts, never had a problem using them and never had to wait. Best part about it is I don’t have to deal with moronic cashiers.

I use them all the time. Never understood the people waiting 15 minutes in a long line for a cashier when they can just use an empty self-checkout and be done in 2 minutes.

Personally I like self check out. I buy in bulk when things are on special. To make sure I stock up on things I buy on the first day of the special and whiz through the self check out. A lot of people do not like the self check outs and avoid them. Another good use to the SCO is to get rid of your pocket full of nickels and dimes.
