Self Check Outs Are Annoying

G

Grace Sparks

So I went to wall mart , and the registers had like 6 people waiting , so i go and see this self check out.
I couldn't get mine to run smooth at all so theres a staff member to help. The staff member basically did my whole order ,,
so i don't see a point in his being successful Finding the right codes for veges and fruit.
Is wally mart this cheap that they would take away 10 cashiers jobs.?

The Walmart near me took out the express lanes, which worked well, and put in more self checkouts. As a result I rarely go in the store, only if I can't get the item elsewhere.
A while back I was in a Lowes store where the only checkouts operating were the self checkouts. None of them were working properly. There were lots of employees on duty in the customer service area, but they were just loafing around, not paying attention to the customers. I've figured out that in these types of stores it is better to use the contractor checkouts.

I love them! I was at a shoppers yesterday, two cashiers , 15 people in each line. I used the self check out and was done in less than a minute. It’s common to find a machine that is out of order, but I just go to the next available. Like instant tellers, a real time saver.

I love them and use them all the time. Never have much if an issue at all. Once in a while but not often.

Humans have the capacity to learn things. Therefore, next time you use the self-checkout you should be able to apply what the staff member showed you, and you'll improve over time.
Seems like you already had an ideological opinion and are determined to hate on them because of that position.

Bypassing the scanner and getting that $100 item for free is easy. Unlikely, but if caught you can blame their equipment. Unless you’re sketchy looking, lol.
They’ll increase security nullifying any cost saving for the store. A lose/lose proposition.

Fuck that...they let you cash in by yourself and charge you 5c a bag too?

I’ve gotten many free items at the self check out. If they want to be cheap and save money on cashiers it’s going to cost them in other ways.
They lose money on me every time.

Are they paying me for being a cashier?
My time is being stolen from me.
I’m just returning the favor.
While I’d never steal, I see your point of view in the first part of your post.

The prices don’t get cheaper, just the company’s bottom line increase since they can fire a few cashiers.

I don’t want to be a customer and work the till for them. Besides, the self check out inevitably goes down, is locked up etc and it’s 4x longer to pay for your stuff and leave.

Makes me not want to shop at those stores

Don't shop at WMT. My pref. is COST where there are human helpers in abandon. However, that said, the automatic checkers are a useful technology and can be an immense aide in speeding up a checkout. The current optical scan technology is perfectly capable of discriminating between let's say parsley and cilanthro and shouldn't have to resort to product code numbers.
Every time I pass through a modern airport I am delighted to witness a proliferation of the automated stations. They have saved many hours of waiting in line for me and millions of others I am sure.

You could use the same crappy justification for stealing just about anything. "I feel like they're ripping me off, so anything goes!"

This is laughable. Self check outs saves time. They're offering you a convenience. You want ATM's or you want to go to a branch everytime you want to get your money? You probably complain about ATM's also making you do the work. Ever line up at the bank to get service by a real human? It's a very long wait.

I can see the judges face when you tell him you stole money from the ATM because the bank made you do the work.

The product isn’t stolen. If they didn’t get a scan of the product that’s their problem, it’s not up to me to make sure their bill is accurate.
If I install a toilet for you I don’t ask you to tally the bill for me and make sure you included the price of the toilet in your fee.

Instead if more cashiers, they have to hire more people to help out when the self checkout doesn’t work.

LOL not sure how you would steal money from an ATM.
I’m quite sure that you can miss scanning a few products though.
