I don’t recall anyone from India complaining about it. The only ones who took issue were the pearl clutching nimrods on the Right who, last time I checked, regularly insult other cultures and would have to Google the meaning of “cultural appropriation.”
Alot of people in the media over there did. That reaction was under reported here.

To say that people or society didn't know it was offensive to do blackface in 2001 is laughable. Ted Danson did it at a Friar's roast in the early 90's and was given a lot of shit for it. The thing about a lot of Quebeccers and Quebec society is that there is a whole lot of racism/intolerance going on there. As long as the target of the bigotry was the "L'Anglaise" the media never gave a shit. Now the main targets of the intolerance are people with darker skin tones... which means the media will now give a shit

It will be funny to watch JT try and slither his way out of this. He may be the most disingenuine politician I have ever seen. In the time of Trump that is saying a lot
Quoted for the truth.

I remember the Ted Danson uproar quite well too.

And I agree that Quebec is probably one of thee most racist places in North America. But the funny thing is, they don't believe it.

That's funny, I've never come across anyone calling you Conway on this particular site...
Well then apparently you have not been paying attention to posts from members such as Zaibetter, Latin boy, or Butler1000...can’t say that I blame you!

lmao he'd have to be the dumbest grown man on Earth.
Really? Did anyone at the event complain or criticize JT for wearing brownface? Did any parents or students object? Did the school administration discipline him? Obviously not. It would not have been understood then the way that it is now.

The world has changed considerably in the past 20 years. That’s why conservatives are so worked up all the time; they want the world to go back to what they felt familiar and comfortable with. It won’t happen. Progressives lead and shape the future; conservatives have to be dragged into the new millennium crying and whining every step of the way.

It's called White Privilege.

And in this case add in Prep School/Who's his Daddy privelege as well.

I suspect that there will be more shit come out on JT in the next couple of weeks.

I'm just waiting for the cons to unleash JT's "me too moment" on him and finish him off.

There have always been rumours that JT is a fiend. I suspect that information has been locked in a vault until the perfect time so that it can be brought out into the light of day to inflict the kill shot not just to JT but the liberal majority.

It's been far longer than 20 years that "the world changed" .

The social outlook of the nation of Canada has not changed that much since 1999.

The "world changed" in the 1960's. Truly it did. When Trumpites chant about "make America great again" , they don't want to back things up to 1999, they want to take us back to 1949.

I get tired of the term White Privilege.

If one does business abroad, you quickly realize there are Chinese with privilege, Japanese with privilege, Indians with privilege, Latins with privilege, etc. etc. Hell, there's Nigerians with privilege, Kenyans, Zimbabeans and so on.

What people describe as White Privilege is mostly economic and hereditary privilege. At this time in history, Caucasians just happen to be on top of the economic pyramid closely followed by Asians. That's why White Privilege is so fiercely targeted by the Left.

Yup. I agree for the most part. The key word is privelege. He is a trust fund kid who grew up wanting for nothing, handed his success by dint of birth and wealth.

To say you didn't know this was racist is 2001 is ridiculous, especially as a teacher.

He just assumed that with his position, he could do it anyway.

You're talking about Trump, right?
'Cuz you have had no problem with those issues with Trump previously.
So why now?

It's never too late. The caucus can dump him anytime as leader. He is only the Leader and PM at the will of the other MP'S.

But they won't.
Oh the irony of it all, eh Butler?

Nonsense.

That word seems to get tossed around these days an awful lot.

I don't think Trudeau is a racist. Not at least what I consider to be a racist. If you had labelled him a hypocrite I would have agreed with you. Or if you had labelled him a dumb ass I would have agreed with you. But a racist?

JT is a lot of things, but a racist is not one of them.

A drama teacher who put on inappropriate costumes.
Like that's never happened before in theatre.

Different political system. And it was speculation on the mechanics of how.

The Liberals have no choice but to keep him, try to ride out the storm, hope for a minority govt or a Conservative Scandal.

Very much apples and oranges.

Overt, no.

But considering the social and academic circles he ran in his is the racism of "be nice to the serving class, and after a few generations of assimilation the smart ones can be our accountants, doctors, lawyers and even VP.

But certainly not in the board rooms and political leadership.

His is the backslapping joke in the change room type. When they aren't around.
