It's wrong to speculate, but it's kind of odd he was so tight and controlling with the money.

What would his reaction had been, if she told him she was done, and wanted a divorce.

Originally, TPS detectives, thought it was a murder suicide.

Kids brought in former detectives who gave a different opinion, but this guys are in the private business, and if they agreed with TPS, well their lucrative contract would be over. Instead by having a different opinion, they now have job security as long as this investigation keeps going.
