This is terrible if true

The average person could be ingesting 2000 tiny pieces of plastic every week - the equivalent of a credit card - with drinking water the largest source.

The No Plastic in Nature report by Australia's University of Newcastle, commissioned by the World Wildlife Fund, suggests people around the world are consuming about five grams of microplastics a week, or just over 250 grams annually.
The study combines data from more than 50 studies on the ingestion of microplastics, which are plastic particles under five millimetres in size.

Drinking water is the largest contributor, with the plastic particles found in bottled, tap, surface and groundwater all over the world.
Shellfish, beer and salt are the consumables with the highest recorded levels of plastic
WWF International's director general Marco Lambertini said the findings should serve as a wake-up call to governments.

"Not only are plastics polluting our oceans and waterways and killing marine life - it's in all of us and we can't escape consuming plastics," he said in a statement.
"Global action is urgent and essential to tackling this crisis."
The University of Newcastle study, released on Wednesday, found water in the United States and Lebanon had on average 4.8 and 4.5 fibres per 500 millilitres respectively, compared to 1.9 fibres per 500ml in both Europe and Indonesia.

Since the year 2000, the world has produced as much plastic as all preceding years combined, with a third ending up in nature, the report states.
In 2016, some 100 million metric tonnes of plastic waste ended up in the natural world.
Lambertini said the issue was a global problem which could only be solved by addressing the root cause of plastic pollution.

"If we don't want plastic in our bodies, we need to stop the millions of tonnes of plastic that continue leaking into nature every year," he said.
"In order to tackle the plastic crisis, we need urgent action at government, business and consumer levels, and a global treaty with global targets to address plastic pollution."

And so they buy bottled water they hope — no real evidence supports their hope — will be will be be free of the stuff, then pitch the bottles in the trash or gutter. And there, the bottles get shredded and sooner or later wind up in the water and the cycle repeats.

The problem isn't the plastic, it's the people.

If you test the PPM of the common water bottles like the ones from tim Hortons you will get a range of 330 to 380 PPM. If you test the PPM of GTA tap water you will get a range of 130-190 PPM. If you are wondering yes I did this on many occasions just to see because I happen to have a PPM indicator handy. In addition to the PPM it does not test the leached plastic and otther crap leached and dissolved into water during preparation and shipping in extremely hot trucking containers. Maybe some permium water offers benefit such as smart water, dasani, or fiji water however the vast majority is just a scam. You are paying for dirtier water vs. you can get cleaner water from tap. This is such a joke and people keep falling for it.

Total Dissolved Solids in water.
I actually knew that but was highlighting the fact that it is an irrelevant number to the discussion of microplastics. Bottled spring water will have high TDS because it has dissolved minerals. Reverse Osmosis processed bottled water will have very low TDS. Toronto city water has moderate TDS because it comes from Lake Ontario. There may be some dissolved minerals like iron from the watermains but nothing significant unless you are in an old part of the city and might have a lead connection to the city water main.

All (except lead) are perfectly safe. Some say that high TDS of minerals is beneficial. IE: Mineral Water!

With a little melted cheese on it, any credit card can be quite tasty.

Hard to chew though, I suggest a purée with heavy cream and just teensy bit of Dijon for tang, then serve it with the cheese over toast, French if you like.

This.
A TDS tester just gives you a quantity of PPM that are NOT H20.
I bought one with my reverse osmosis water filter so that I know when I need to change the filters and membrane.
