Has anyone tried a cock ring? As I get older I find my erection doesn’t last as long as it used to. Do cock rings work as advertised or are they just a gimmick to get your money?

They do work if they're tight enough. An elastic at the base of penis does the same thing after getting an erection: keeps the blood inside. In fact, for those who are impotent, they can use a suction pump to get an erection, and then slip an elastic/cock right at the base of the penis to keep it hard.
But if you're having problems with erections, then go see your doctor and get a prescription for Cialis/Tadalafil. You can take a single 10 or 20mg dose that will last you up to 36 hours, or take a 2.5 or 5mg dose every day. I take the latter, and feel like I'm in my '30's again. The latter will also lower your blood pressure, and I dropped one medication for hypertension as a result. Also, for those with prostatitis, a majority see an improvement in symptoms with the daily dose.
I have an expensive vibrating one. It's been forever since it got used but I'm sure I remember it being a nice plus for both. However, it was only used as a toy and not to try to correct any kind of ED so I can only guess but I think it would work (or at least help to an extent) for you're looking for.

On the rare occasion I’ve had an issue, I’ve had girls poke a hole in an unrolled condom and use that as a makeshift ring. Seems to get the job done.
