I didn’t know we had one either, sounds like we’re not allowed to have one.

I always laugh when I hear about white privilege. I grew up in Beasley in Hamilton. My parents despite both working could barely put food on the table when I was a kid and my old man died at 54 from silicosis! Some ducking privilege!

This was clearly a slight on the lgbt community. There is no such thing as straight pride as we make up over 90% of the population. There is a straight ally flag they could have flow which shows support for both, they chose not to. They are redneck Neanderthals.

I always knew there was an Alt Right. Racists and bigots who wanted nothing more then to exterminate anyone different. I never knew an Alt Left existed until I joined social media. SOME…..I say some of them would just as soon see every person different from them dead. The language is almost identical....

Some would say your family wasted the head start.

But seriously, maybe you should have committed a crime (the same type with all esle being equal) as a non-white and then watch the rest play out in order to understand. Or dress

Then you will laugh some more...while the other person doesn't.

But the fact you think just because your family was poor (were they educated at all? Maybe the economy was shit) and your pops got sick (not sure why that came up - diseases don't give a shit) it meant White privilege didn't exist. White Privilege isn't about riches for all Whites while everyone else is dirty poor. Clearly you don't undertand the underlying concept.

Generally comments are supposed to be somewhat related to the topic, this makes no sense.

Maybe they were just lazy, uneducated and/or stupid. Good thing you weren't black or you'd really have a rough ride.

Sorry you feel that low opinion of yourself, your hometown and your folks, but why try to talk others into it?

PS. The thread, the flag and the talk here have nothing to do with Hamilton, or any colour of collars.

In some ways a Pyrrhic victory. Yes, social media forced the village council to run for cover, but given the nature of this rural community did they manage to change any minds or did the Internet warriors from many hundreds if not thousands of Km away just harden minds.

Actually I have a very high opinion of my parents and my hometown. My my comments were in response to what the op said about white privilege. My invitation was a joke. I don't actually expect anyone to actually show up and run their mouth to me. Although I admit I would enjoy it if they did. Anyway I said what I said. If people wanna chirp from behind a screen that's up to them. I am done.

Cheers!

How could you say this from anyone? Not everyone born with gold spoon in their mouth and be a pampered "educated" boy as you. You didn't know anything about their circumstances, so don't call his parents, lazy or stupid. Maybe they worked 10 times more in their life , than you will ever. My grandpa died in silicosis in Europe, because he was a coal mineworker for 30 years. Believe it or not, many "uneducated" people do hard physical jobs. If they don't, you will be frozen in your fucking armchair in wintertime. Don't be an asshole, just because a stork dropped you in the right place. It's not your credit. You were just lucky!!

And I believe the OP didn't feel privileged at all, but as hard done by as your post came across. My sympathies to you both; the place to start building self-esteem is just behind the eyeballs. Nothing to do with flags, or hometowns.

Fair enough. By the way I think flying a straight pride flag was ignorant. My family are Irish immigrants so I know a thing or two about bigotry! But will leave it at that.

Cheers again!
