Your browser does not support WAF!

Has anyone else encountered the above problem?

What did you do to resolve this?

Thanks!

Yup, I'm getting that too. I know exactly which site your trying to log into
At least I know it is not just me :)

Grateful for suggestions on how to work around the problem.

Does anyone know what is going on and why this WAF notice is appearing?

With the given context, WAF is Web Application Firewall.

There's too many unknown variables here so it would be ideal to contact the site's support team for help.

I can't get on to the site to ask for help. Is there a work around?

Is there a way for me to make my browser WAF compliant when I am unable to message the site? I understand this may be a silly question. I've googled the issue and can not find a solution so asking for help ..

Web Application Firewalls is one of the products my company sells and supports. I asked one of my techies and he said your browser must support SNI (lol - did that help?) He indicated almost all modern big-name browsers except the blackberry browser supports SNI and it's on by default. He also said it's also possible that the WAF has a bug or misconfiguration.

Questions / suggestions:
1) Have you tried a different browser? Microsoft Edge seems to have the fewest compatibility issues.
2) Are you running a firewall on your PC (it might be part of an AV suite)? If yes, depending on the site you are going to, temporarily turn the entire suite off.
3) Are you running any kind of content filtering software (on your router or PC)? If this is happening at work, there a a modest chance they are filtering websites.
4) Are you running a VPN?

What site are you going to (if you don't mind saying), I can try it from my PC.

Thank you! I sincerely appreciate your help :)

- The site is the Blue Board.
- I have tried Firefox, Edge, and Chrome. All display the same message. I'm getting the same message on my phone with Chrome or FF
- not running a VPN
- never visit the site from work
- no changes to my antivirus in the past 6 months (except regular updates)
- turned AV off for 2 minutes and tried the site same result.

Was able to view site one day and not the next.

Well, this mystery has a new twist. Thanks to Promo I disconnected everything from wifi and used my phone as a hotspot. Everything works now. So this problem is my ISP but I've not had an issue before. This is new in the past couple of weeks

As I am trying to log on to the blue board I am not going to call the ISP and ask for tech support. Any chance someone understands what is happening and how I can fix this?

ISP is Xplornet

Ahh progress ..... good job!

I can get to the blue board currently with no problems.

I did a little research on your ISP. They do perform "Traffic Management", but don't appear to do content filtering at source. No-one else seems to be complaining of similar problems with Xplornet.

Have you poked around the Xplornet web portal user profile to see if it has any content filtering options accidently turned on? I'm not a member so I can't check if this feature exists on the portal.
^^-- I don't think it's this, just being redundant in my troubleshooting approach.

More serious suggestion:
1) Sign-up for a VPN service (I use ExpressVPN) and see if the problem goes away. Most providers have a 15 or 30 day free trial. The VPN provider will use their DNS server and their IP addresses.
- This will negate almost any influence Xplornet has as everything will be encrypted and DNS will not be Xplornet's
- It's possible the blue board is blocking your Xplornet IP address for some reason and the VPN will change your IP. To be safe use a CDN or US drop-off site.

If the VPN works, then ask the Xplornet to manually change your IP address and see if that works - just tell them that a few of your favourite sites seemed to have blacklisted you. Most IPs permanently assign you an IP for tracking purposes as required by law (it can change with some ISPs, but they must track the change)

Thank you! This is very helpful info

I will connect with a VPN and see what happens :)

Sadly, no not working yet. I have not picked a VPN so that may still solve the problem but it did not resolve itself :(

Another option before the VPN: try a local starbucks or someone with public internet. It is possible they content filter porn sites, so keep this in mind, you may have to try a few places. Many family restaurants around me have free Internet for customers and since they aren't IT people, don't do content filtering - the chain restaurants tend to filter.

I can see how that could happen but I can access terb and any adult site except the blue board. Been using Xplornet for over 6 years now. This WAF stuff is only in the last 60 days or so ..

I think it's most likely an IP address problem i.e. blacklisted by the WAF or some other weird bug in the WAF on the blue board. (which using your cell phone helped isolate). By trying from an open WIFI site, if it works we verified it's likely the IP issue. It's not reall yabout those other boards, I was just pointing out that some open WIFI's use content filtering services, so when you do try, verify you can also get to TERB which proving there is no content filtering happening.

You should also clear your browser cache including cookies. Always a good step when troubleshooting, but since your cell worked, not likely the problem here.

These kinds of problems can crop up as a result of a browser update, windows update or just as possible something on the website. Sometimes it's just a weird combination of patch code that only impacts a handful of users that have the exact right combination. It's possible the next update clears the problem and we users have no idea what the actual root cause was.

I run a sniffer on my PC that lets me see more details at the TCP, IP and application level, but even this tool doesn't always show what the root cause is.
