Anyone come across this lady? Viktoriya Yermolyeva. No, she's not an escort. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)

She plays piano, and she plays popular music with the touch and mastery of a classical concert pianist. She plays Bohemian Rhapsody as if it were a Schubert rhapsody. From her, Let It Be is as exquisite as a Chopin Nocturne.
She plays Imagine with more sympathy and gentle touch than it ever had. (Or ever deserved -- the musical structure of Imagine is simply crude (the whole thing having just 3 chords. Even Let it Be only has four chords: major, rel.minor, subdom, dom.)

Bohemian on the other hand is highly complex musically -- it almost could be by Schubert. (Which prompts me to predict that, if any kind of popular music is going to be played in a hundred years, surely it will be Queen's.)

Just thought I'd draw the attention of terb's classical cognoscenti to VK -- those who don't already know her.
IMO, she brings -- not just the classical touch, but pure class, to her arrangements of popular tunes.

Freddy and Franz are very much alike, hard to say which was the bigger party animal. I'm sure if Franz had access to cocaine he would have snorted with the same reckless abandon. Freddy took care of his voice, Franz not much of anything.

You're right, Bohemian Rhapsody does have a Schubert vibe to it, except for the guitar fanfare after the opera chorus, Freddy wrote most of it himself. His voice along with his musical mastery made up for the fact that sometimes he ran out of ideas with his lyrics.

As Hawkeye would say, "Ahhhh, Schubert".

Sacha Baron Cohen was originally scheduled to play Freddie Mercury, however, he left the project (he claims) because of interference by Brian May. Supposedly Brian insisted on a sanitized version of Freddie whereas Cohen wanted to show the real Freddie in all his Oscar Wilde glory.

Who knows.

All I know is that the man had the greatest voice in rock and roll and he left this world way too soon.

That happens all the time Tiberius, I few years ago Tom Hardy was preparing to be Elton John. He also said that he would always make time for a Christopher Nolan project. The call from Nolan came (Dunkirk), no more Elton John. Rocketman will come out in May 2019 with Taron Egerton (Kingsmen) as Elton John.

Freddy was very much into Oscar Wilde, he even wrote a song about him.

^^^ I can't imagine Hardie as Elton John, but if he could pull it off, it would be incredible. (I still am rocked seeing Hardie in Bronson.)

Never underestimate Tom Hardy, he's already played gay twice, he would have given Elton John that Liberace touch. Teron Edgerton played Ronnie Kray's bf in Legend.

Freddy Mercury may not have been entirely gay, he adored his wife till the end.

When the performer looks this good, I don't expect Martha Argerich. Girl knows her Chopin.

In closing, Franz's last and perhaps greatest work.

Freddy outlived Franz by 7 years. Franz had the misfortune of getting his music published under the giant shadows of Mozart and Beethoven. After he died at age 34, his music remained unknown until Brahms took up his cause. If Ludwig Van had been able to hear this piece he would have said, "Damn, why didn't I write this.

This thread was supposed to be about Viktoriya Yermolyeva.

She's the pianist, with many many piano versions of popular music pieces. I myself love her arrangements. I especially love the gentle delicacy of her "touch".

Has no-one else got an opinion of her? It's well worth the effort of getting to know her. Do you have your own favourites of her pieces?

Her Bohemian Rhapsody sounds as if Schubert wrote it.

Hail to you, Viktoriya, for bringing a huge new dimension to your pieces.
