Most notably ceiling cat and Canada man with his airplane threads. Can there not be a rule if a person habitually posts the same shit with very little interest they lose their thread starting privileges? The board to me is a place to read and get info on many topics. The board cloggers are annoying.

They are annoying, but as long as the posts are not offensive or break any rules, I don't think that they can do much.

As per your suggestion, who determines which posts are annoying and what is the criteria for determining "very little interest"? How do you quantify it? How is it measured?

I think that we are stuck with c-m's posts. The best that you can do is put them on ignore.

Its very easy to determine. If the threads are all the same topic basically and the views and comments are minuscule, that is board clogging. Meaning members simply aren't interested, I'm talking repetitive, we all have the occasional thread dud. I mean regularly the same stuff which garners little interest.

If someone starts 10 threads a week and 7 of the 10 attract little interest, the member should have restrictions put on their account, ie. One thread a week until they prove they can provide topics that interest the members.

I am curious - if you put them on ignore do you still see the thread that they started?
Sadly yes. You can still see the title.

The posts are set up the same as any other post. The user side bar is there. Just the text area has a message about you having the person blocked and gives you the opinion to unblock or only view the individual post you are not seeing.

Hope that made sense.

Here
May I suggest that we all learn a little bit more patience and tolerance?

You have the option to put people on ignore and/or not open the thread or post... why would you impose censorship in advance?

The website "owners" are not complaining... why is it so important to you? Let me put it another way: why would you want to impose your views on others?

My own sense is that a free-for-all Board shouldn't be restricted, especially in its open-ended Lounge area, and never by imposing some one person's particular concept of what's boring, or of no interest. To them

That said, an objective standard like 'at least two genuine replies in a week' or the thread's moved to a Retired Threads Home doesn't seem unreasonable. But is the OP ready to pay the Mods for their extra work? For my part, I'm willing to live with a more democratic approach where we get to — courteously — encourage better posts by — politely — sharing our high minded and superior opinions of such juvenile and tedious drivel.

So if they only post 9 threads a week, they don't have to worry.

And what is the definition of "little interest"? Is it quantifiable? And how do we know how much interest there really is. I may not respond to a thread but I may still be interested in reading the discussion.

I am not disputing the thrust of your argument. I am just pointing out that it would be very difficult to implement in a fair manner.

As others have pointed out, who sets the standard? I would happily endure Ceiling Cat's stupid videos (at least me marks them) or CM's planes, trains, and automobiles posts to be rid of any thread started by Charlemagne (or whatever his name is this week), but I'm sure that others feel differently.

My biggest issue with media today is that it is so fragmented it is tremendously easy to choose media outlets that serve only to confirm our biases. TERB combats that, and for this I am thankful.

Lol, I was waiting for someone to use the C word. It makes no sense business wise to have the board regularly clogged with threads of no interest to its members. Would a comedian tell the same jokes in the hope eventually people will laugh, or a restaurant sell shitty food hoping people eventually like it.

Just make it a board policy ie.

We at TERB strive to provide interesting and fresh content to its members, repetitive content posted by the same members that garner little or no interest from the members will no longer be tolerated. We reserve the right to enforce this as we see fit.

Having regular threads that are mostly the same content posted makes no sense, what is the point?

I guess you missed that part so I'll explain it again. Regular threads from the same people that garner very few views and no comments are the standard. If they are posted regularly, that is considered board clogging and thread starting would be restricted. If you start 10 threads a week and seven get no comments and under 100 views then that is considered not contributing useful content to the board.

Why not have a separate section for them or one thread, ccats videos or c-m's planes, trains and automobiles. Anyone interested can visit there. I don't want other threads to be pushed down because of 6 stupid videos all in separate threads.

I did not miss your point at all. I simply ignored it :)

At least ceiling cat puts a star next to his threads, makes it easy to know which thread to avoid

The board software should be able to automatically close or delete threads based on definite rules like number of replies in a date range, age of thread, etc. There should not be any extra work for the mods assuming that the software has this capability. The tricky part is setting up rules that don't conflict with each other. Filtering out content by subjective rules like number of genuine replies in a week takes manual effort to read and interpret threads.

It does not make business sense to have people manually reading through threads and making judgement calls to save or delete them, though I realize that people do that. Those actions don't bring in any revenue to the board. A business case to remove threads would be if the servers were near or at maximum capacity: drive space, etc. That is scenario is unlikely because text takes so little space and it's relatively cheap to increase capacity.

Sure it does, we're only talking about 2 or 3 members. Increasing the quality of the board benefits everyone, advertisers etc. Having spammers anywhere on the net isn't good for any business.
