Canadian marijuana users, workers and investors may be barred from U.S.

Cannabis-related stocks dropped in after-hours trading Thursday following a report that the U.S. may bar Canadians who invest in the companies from entering the U.S. Politico reported Thursday afternoon that an official with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency said that Canadians who smoke marijuana, work in the industry or invest in the companies could be permanently banned from the U.S. "Facilitating the proliferation of the legal marijuana industry in U.S. states where it is deemed legal or Canada may affect an individual's admissibility to the U.S.," Todd Owen, executive assistant commissioner for the Office of Field Operations at the CBP, told Politico. Marijuana use will officially become legal in Canada on Oct. 17. The CBP did not immediately respond to an email seeking to confirm the statements. Stocks that immediately declined in late trading included Tilray Inc. TLRY, -7.10% which declined more than 5%; Canopy Growth Corp. CGC, -13.67% which dropped about 4%; and Cronos Group Inc. CRON, -3.26% which also fell about 4

Back in the 6ix
Constellation Brands based on New York just made a hefty investment in Canopy Growth a Canadian company... therefore shouldn't any US citizen or worker who has stock in that company be deported... or should the deal be looked at by the US gov and voided? How about other non cdn companies that invest?

Another dick move

It is going to be hard for the federal government to get tough when 8 eight states allow recreational marijuana and a further 19 states allow medical marijuana. The tide is changing.

The Federal Government controls the borders not individual states, so whatever the feds say will be rule of law.

if we are legally allowed to smoke , purchase and invest in marijauna but are not allowed into the USA if we are asked and admit to a border guard(there discretion).Than how the hell are people who have the constitutional right under the law of the most powerful nation in the world to bear and conceal arms allowed into our country. If its the judgement of Homeland security that Canadians who have smoked pot in the past are a threat to there national security, than surely even they would agree that a Canadian border services agent asking somebody from the USA if they have used or possessed a firearm in the past is as absurd as there policy on weed. Common sense is slowly being squeezed out by politics.

A massive study published this month in the Journal of Drug Issues found that the proportion of marijuana users who smoke daily has rapidly grown, and that many of those frequent users are poor and lack a high-school diploma.
To be perfectly honest my good friend, canada man, without a lil bit of verdura I may not have passed my CAD courses. I stopped when my papa passed away. Fuck the Americans and the horses they rode in on.

Per the article "They found that the profile of marijuana users is much closer to cigarette smokers than alcohol drinkers".

I conducted a research project using a small sample forum at a large international organization and found that the results of tobacco users were very similar.

* The majority of smokers worked in lower paying jobs
* The majority of smokers had no secondary school education

These majorities were not a simple 51/49 ratio, they were overwhelming majorities more on an 80/20 or higher ratio.

It is something you would not think about, but when you look around you, you will see this trend as plain as day.

The head of USCBP has said that they are not going to question every Canadian entering the U.S., rather if there are items in vehicles which lead to suspicion then they will question.

You know Americans with DUIs are denied entry into Canada all the time, right?

DUI is a felony in all states except Hawaii. DUI is also a Felony in all provinces. A felony conviction should be a determining factor to entry to any country. I have a DUI from 91 and get asked 7/10 times if I have any felonies, Im always honest and Ive only been sent back once in over 200 entries. Both Pot and Guns should be disqualifying for entry if there is possession at the border on either side.My point was about common sense. What is legal in your country is none of our business, but if u wish to enter our country please follow our laws when u are visiting. Gun owners who leave there guns at home, should be welcome in Canada. Canada Border services should be allowed to ask if any guns are being brought into the country, and that is where it should end. A Homeland Security agent should be allowed to ask if a Canadian is bringing in any marijuana smokable, edibles,bi-products,seeds or maybe even literature depending on its propose. Thats where the judgement should end

The fact that you are asked about any felonies means that it shows up on their screen.
