And if you guys could have a camera on me, you would be laughing your asses off

So I am at my little spot on the lake. I bought stupid cheap Hamilton Beach single cup coffee marker. Stupid thing broke. Won't pump out the water. I am miles away from a coffee shop which let's be real, I would not use anyway. Miles away from a Walmart where I can buy a new machine.

So I am literally pouring boiling water into the cut up keruig cup, trying to get coffee.

I have burnt my hand to shit, waste 3 keruig cups, split water all over and don't have single dry towel left not this place if I spill more, all for a half a cup of coffee. Which has some grounds in it of course. By the time I was done, the coffee was cold so it needs a heat in the microwave. Clearly burnt my hand for nothing.

Arg.....

Off to destress with my half a cup of nuked coffee with grounds down by the water. Hahahaha

What are your first world problems?

You can make a Melita style filter with folded paper towel — cheaper ones work better — or tea-bag style coffee with any scrap of cloth. And cowboy coffee with the grounds simmered in the pot of water is very appropriate for the lake.

But never give up. Coffee matters. You just didn't have your plan B, C, D … Z in place.

Well...there’s this:

Quebec labour tribunal sides with employer in cat-bereavement spat

A Quebec labour tribunal has sided with an employer who refused a woman's request to work from home on the day her cat died.

Chantal Dumais filed a complaint alleging she was forced to leave her job in 2015 due to various incidents of alleged psychological harassment.

She said one example was when she wasn't paid after staying home from the office one day after the sudden death of her cat, Juliette.

Dumais told her employer she was too upset to come to work after finding her beloved pet dead, but that she still made calls from home.

Court documents state the Laval resident left her job a short time later, soon after learning she had not been paid for the day in question.

But the tribunal ruled that nothing in Quebec's labour law permits a salaried employee to miss work following the death of a pet.

Tribunal Judge Sylvain Allard also concluded that Dumais quit of her own accord and that her employer's actions did not constitute psychological harassment.

'Pawternity leave' is a thing

Quebec's Labour Standards Act states that an employee is entitled to a paid day off for the death of a spouse, child, parent or sibling.

An employee may miss a day without pay for the death of a grandparent, grandchild, son- or daughter-in-law, or a spouse's immediate family member.

But while the law is narrow in scope, some workers and employers may choose to evolve their policies as societal views of what constitutes a family become more fluid, an employment lawyer said.

"As society is evolving, and relationships evolve, I think more people are seeking flexibility, because they might not be very close with their parent, and they might be absolutely devastated when a best friend dies," Jeremy Little said in a phone interview.

Some employers, he said, may find it worth granting a day off to grieving employees even if the law doesn't require them to do so.

"If you look at the goodwill it will cost you to not give that, versus the goodwill it generates to give it, practically speaking, even if the law does not technically provide for it, you might suggest it makes sense to do," he said.

Some companies in the United States and Europe have introduced pet bereavement leave or even "pawternity leave," which allows pet owners to take time off to care for a new puppy.

"Employers are looking for creative ways to keep their employees engaged and committed and creative at work," said Lisa Kay, the president of Peak Performance Human Resources.

While she's generally in favour of anything that makes employees feel valued, she warns that such policies can have downsides if some employees don't like pets or feel slighted because the company's list of accommodations doesn't fit their own priorities.

"You have to be careful, because it can backfire a bit," she said.

I would allow someone paid time off for the death of a pet. A dog or a cat are more family for some than an actual person.
That’s nice of you to do as an employer...but if you changed your mind I hope your employee would not accuse you of psychological harassment and file a complaint with the Labour Board.

Lol I feel your pain. I'm at a rental cottage this week that doesn't quite have everything you need. I had to flip burgers with a pie lifter and flip steaks using the tiniest little salad tongs. I got some burnt knuckles for my trouble.

The first world problem is there are too many poor people in the first world countries such as Canada and USA who are:

- homeless
- no money to buy foods for 3 meals a day
- begging for changes / money on the sidewalks, streets and stop lights / intersections everywhere I go from the medium size cities such as Kitchener / Waterloo, Victoria B.C. to much larger cities such as Toronto, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver and etc.
- high unemployment and underemployed people
- too many people who are not willing to work and live on government welfare and handout
- the gap between the riches and poor people are very high
- the salary and compensation gap between the CEO & other C-suite and average workers are as high as stratospheric distance
- health care and medication are so expensive such that people who cannot afford the health insurance continue to suffer from poor health
- costs of attending a university education are so high and leaving millions of young people with tens or even hundred thousands of dollars in debts from student loans
- large number of young women choose to become sugar baby in order to survive
- old people cannot retire and still working pass their retirement ages of 60s or even 70s because they cannot afford to live without working
- so many old people are hanging out in the fast foods and coffee chains to escape from the loneliness while their offspring / children hardly come back to spend time with them
- errr..... there are so many first world problems we are facing now in the "first world"....

Pretty sure these are REAL world problems in the 1st world, not "1st world problems".

"The water from my filter isn't cold enough"- This is actually true if you are the second person to use it. It's room temperature...
"The soap in our washroom doesn't moisturize"
"My A/C doesn't cool my bedroom"
"My cellphone is only 3G"
"The grocery store ran out of X" where X is any food item.

Can't think of too many right now but I've heard a few doozies.

I am glad that some people get what I am saying.

So take two this morning, much better. Didn't burn my hand AND thanks to the tip from OldJones on the paper towel I made a successfull cup of coffee with only a few grounds in it. LOL.

However I admit I am way to elitist to continue this method so I will buying a new machine once I go back home.

How about an old world solution to your first world problem. Instead of a new coffee machine, get a French Press, a grinder and a bag of beans. Better, fresher coffee and less investment.

What a horrible world.

I live in Ontario (yeah I know, but thats not the problem). Alberta has more choice at better prices. My big problem, I can't believe I have to deal with, that I have to really break my head over, is how to pack and ship 14 litres of booze in 8 bottles from Calgary to Toronto.

Would someone hold a hat to collect finds to help out please?
Unless the NDP Government lowered prices in Alberta recently, which I doubt, booze has always been higher there than here since Klein introduced private sales. Who is the distributor? Why, the government of course! Hence the price discrepancy. I find the selection sucks at those little strip mall stores too.

So your first world problem I think is one of your own making unless you found some incredibly cheap moonshine somewhere in the sticks. Then we might have to hold your hat.....if you recover.

Some people will tell you that you should be picking and roasting the beans yourself to have a proper coffee experience. I love coffee, but coffee snobs drive me nuts! I watched a show where they served the actual pickers how the western world serves coffee (most had not had it this way before). In general, they were not impressed.

The Keurig does suck though (and not in a good way). For convenience, Nespresso is much better IMHO. If you are patient, they run promos where if you buy essentially a year of coffee, you get the machine and a frother for a nominal fee (like, 40 bucks). It is more expensive, especially if you do your own Keurig pods, but for a daily luxury is a small price to pay.

In a world where many cannot even get clean drinking water, I would call coffee snobbery (including my own) a first world problem.
See I grew up on shitty Tim's coffee so now I can't drink what others call the "good stuff". It is like my punishment for being stupid and thinking Tim Hortons was what coffee is suppose to be. Hey - I was young and stupid. Don't blame me.

Now I can generally only drink Van Houtte House blend. And people across the net pray that I wake up to a good cup of java or I am a right bitch on the war path. Lol.

I do not do latte or half caf this or foam mocha that. I have a hard enough time with shoes, you want to add different coffee into the mix??? I think not good sir.

I always have a jar of instant coffee as backup. Used to be the most popular way to drink it in the early 70’s before people had drip machines.
Add a shot of Bailey’s to treat yourself.

A spoonful or two of instant coffee, hot water from the tap, stir, and voila, you have your coffee. And better than that shite at Starbucks.

Anyone who drinks Keurig Coffee or any of those pod coffee‘s are not having a real coffee. To do that you have to buy high-quality beans and grind them yourself just before you’re ready to make the coffee in a high-quality coffee maker. Tim Hortons coffee is just awful, most people only go there for convenience and they don’t know what a real cup of coffee taste like. Starbucks is acceptable and I would never set foot in a Tim Hortons.

Go with the Nescafe 3 in 1 instant coffee packets. They have coffee, whitener and sugar in them so you just have to add water. No equipment needed. You can usually find them at Asian supermarkets like T&T. I don't think any other store like Wal-mart or Loblaws carries them.

The ultimate first world problem is that the wifi isn't fast enough to watch Netflix assuming you even have wifi.

Costco, my man, Costco, best prices, biggest bottles and although not top of the line bottles, very decent and did I already say it, much cheaper than theLCBO.
Okay sorry I didn't consider the booze connoisseurs of Costco. But your booze is still 2000 miles away. Pack it well my friend.
