Shopping at Harry Rosen do you....

I had a friend who used to haggle at the higher end places. He'd say he could get a better deal by going to the clothing manufacturers on Spadina. The problem now is that there are no longer any clothing manufacturers on Spadina.
You might try to haggle but don't expect much. They may throw in a shirt and/or slacks to go with it but I doubt you'd get more.
Speaking of Harry Rosen, I've always gone there to buy my suits/jackets and I only go when they have a female salesperson on the floor. I've always felt that a woman has a better eye for what looks good on a man.

Never tried it. And I've dropped large on occasion there. You can always try though. Worst that could happen is they say no.

And even when you tell them you're just looking, they will pester you again within 2 minutes, or another one will approach you. It gets so bad, you finally get the fuck out of there for peace and quiet already.

Perhaps, but I always try to spot the guy on the sales floor of the same stature/build as me - no one else is going to know better what 'fits'.
Either that, or never find a salesperson when you actually need one. I've had the best experiences by far at the Yorkdale and Eaton Centre stores, but have given up on the Bloor Street location completely.
Can't say I've had the same experience, but I only go to the Yorkdale location. And I only go there when I'm prepared to spend.
I don't set foot in a Harry Rosen, for the reason James pointed out....the sales staff wont just let you look...............they try to strike up a convo, and never let up..............anyway the prices are way too high for me..i shop at Tip Tops, and if you are spending some coin you can haggle....I a couple of months ago I spent around $400 and I suggested to the sales guy to lower it to $350 he said 375 and I said ok....this happened at Sherway Gardens...........I think I look good in what I bought...........just as good if I had dropped 600-700 hun at Rosens
I don't shop there because it's over my head for pricing. I'm a boring fuck and will buy my dress shirts at The Bay when they are 30% off.
Regardless, I avoid any store with those annoying commission people. Any store that has a rep making a beeline to you when you take two steps into the store isn't worth the hassle. High end shops, Radio Shack/The Source, the old Future Shop, furniture stores, most of those Foot Locker/Champs kind of stores.... forget it.
However, there ares time you go to do it. Buying a suit or when it's time to buy a new car. You got to go in and get stared at and followed around like prey to vultures.
I remember one time I went to The Brick for furniture 15 years ago. Just wanted to take a look. I'm a fast shopper, not a slow browsing. So I walk around fast a few laps and leave. This one sales guy saw me and literally walked fast behind me. Then at some point, walked even faster to catch up and asked if I needed help and such. Leave me alone!
They do have the best selection there. I also don't complain because that is how the sales people make money so of course if you go to a high end store when they have lots of people working they will all be competing with each other and you will get approached several times. And there is a pretty fine line between good customer service and pestering customers. I do take my time to decide what I want and as poorboy says, if you don't look like money, you don't get bothered too much.
The thing about places like this is they aren't the most economical option but it is nice to be catered to on occasion.
I would debate that... Merino wool vs. shit-made cotton socks is a huge difference. Harry Rosen has been in business forever. If they were out to lunch on the price vs. quality, they'd be out of business.
I've purchased lots of clothes, sport jackets, suits and coats from them and continue to do so as it lasts and looks good. Other Men's Clothiers are similar if you have a guy. Sometimes I find a gem or two in a budget place like Hudson's Bay, but that is a fluke.
HR service is beyond top notch. People get uncomfortable as they are not used being engaged by another person... (I guess you can buy online - which I do as I know my sizing).
Never set foot in one. I don't have enough style nor class for such high end gear. That and I don't have an instagram account.

I agree with you that the clothes at HR are usually (though not always) excellent quality. Prices are at the higher end of the spectrum, however, there is a wide range of prices at HR from reasonable to silly. (I'm not going to pay 4 grand for a coat.) There is also their outlet store in the Heartlands in Mississauga that carries last year's lines that did not sell and can be less expensive. (And no one is going to say, "oh look at that sad sack of shit, his clothes are so 2017" .)
Sales at HR are on all the time, but it seems like what I want is never on sale or they don't have my size.
All in all my opinion is that there is a huge difference in quality and style between what HR sells and what the Bay or Winners (I would have said Sears, but you know) sells. Walmart isn't even on the spectrum. I liken it to cars. You can buy an entry level KIA whatever or you can buy a Ftype Jaguar. Both will get you from A to B, but that's where the similarly ends.
If you want something really sharp, HR will oblige. You can tell the difference in the quality right away. The fit, the cut, the details, the materials. But you will need to pay for it. They say that clothes make the man after all. I think one can own a few high end pieces. If you buy quality you will have something to keep.

I usually go to HR when I need a makeover, they measure me out to fit. If I need specific items I'll go elsewhere, more often than not American Eagle or Timberland.
Agree. They notice the quality and softness of the leather , the fit etc .They notice the smallest of details that go right past a guy.
So, buy some nice stuff as it will last and in the end you spent no more on your cloths and put on a nice cologne when wearing them.
If nothing else , you feel better about yourself.

Unless it's on sale, Harry Rosen is a rip off.
Clothes shopping in the U.S is so much better if you want quality brand name items.
Hit up Woodbury Outlet in New York or order stuff online and pick it up in Buffalo.
Clothes are not like computers where if it's a year old, it's not going to be inferior to the newest edition.
