An association representing some Tim Hortons franchisees says a prominent member has had his licence renewal denied amid ongoing tensions with the company.

The Great White North Franchisee Association board says Mark Kuziora was denied a renewal for one of his two Toronto Tim Hortons outlets as an intimidation tactic.

Kuziora, who is on the association board, was also named as a plaintiff last year in a lawsuit against Tim Hortons alleging it improperly used money from a national advertising fund.

The association, which formed in 2017 in response to what they said was mismanagement from Tim Hortons and parent company Restaurant Brands International, says Kuziora was willing to go ahead with store renovation plans that franchisees have raised concerns about.

Tim Hortons says Kuziora has no renewal rights under the agreement for the specific restaurant, and that they regularly add new owners as part of the normal course of business activity.

The company and franchisees have been in disputes over a range of issues including cost-cutting measures, advertising, and recently announced plans for renovations that the association says will cost each restaurant owner about $450,000.

Tims used to be pretty good.

Then they got rid of on site baking preferring to manufacture in factories and ship frozen and then reheat. That was the start of the fall.

The takeover by burger king was the last nail in the coffin (quality is terrible and now it's all about pricing point than anything else. 2 of whatever for 5 bucks, blah blah blah).

The only thing Tim's has going for it now is convenience. Sad really

They have gone from a Canadian institution to a hard nosed Brazilian Corporation looking to squeeze every penny from costs with no real concern for their image.

My only gripe is their shitty non-existent wifi. Why offer it if it's so slow that it never works?

Have to agree boys. Timmies is no longer a Canadian Corp. They have lost their identity and their donuts suck the big one.

Sales have been flat for 5 quarters. That's unheard of. So it shows people are trending elsewhere because it's not like everyone isn't eating out anymore or grabbing coffee.

Pretty sure Starbucks is growing, and so is McDonald's. So it shows growth is coming from the higher end and bottom of the barrel. A place like Tims in the middle is caught. But as you said (convenience), there's so many locations it's impossible to have noticeable drops in sales due to sheer size.

Out of all the big chain burger joints, BK is possible the worst one.

I'll give it two brownie pts..... 1. Their Whoppers are pretty big. 2. Their apple pies are fried, unlike the pasty McDonald's baked pies.

I think that's it. Oh.... maybe pt #3. They have self serve pop stations.

The sandwich quality is shit. The Whoppers have this odd aftertaste which comes from the mayo I think, which I guarantee will somehow also make everything around you smell like it too, shitty fries, shitt chicken sandwiches, and I've had their Big Mac knock off "Big King". It is one dense mushy burger. It's like eating a Big Mac that has been pounded down with a hammer.

Then add the robots to replace the staff, robots to serve you stale coffee and other stale crap, if Tim's is still around by then.

#3 on your brownie pts. Those serve serve drink machines have so much bacteria, don't know if that should count as brownie pts?

So how do they revoke a franchise? They buy franchisee out? Who decides value?
Apparently you have to renew your lease or franchise agreement or something like that. So they jack up your rates or force you to invest a bunch of money for renovations and when you balk they say See Ya and replace you with someone else whose less of a problem for them.

It's suck to be franchisees. You don't have control of your own business and your profits / margins have been dictated by the companies.

The last time I ate at the Tim was to order a yogurt. They put in a paper bag for me. After I bought it and took a yogurt out from the bag, I saw they put in just about one fifth of yogurt in their cup. It's not even one fourth or one third of the cup. It's so disgusting in how little of yogurt they put inside the cup.

I swear that I will never buy anything in Tim again LOL.
