You have not heard anyone claiming climate change is not real?? You probably have not been reading any posts relating to Climate Change. All the right wingers on this board apart from you, have claimed that climate change is "fake".

Well read the actual facts about the type of new coal power plants that are being built in China:

https://www.americanprogress.org/is...32141/everything-think-know-coal-china-wrong/

Goes to show that they are trying to produce cleaner and more efficient coal power plants. They are also shutting down the older and dirtier ones.
I went back and read all the posts looking for a post denying that climate change is real, have yet to find one. Again the issue isn’t if it’s real. The issue is the cynicism around how our government have latched on to this as way of raising taxes with political impunity and wrapping themselves in the flag of climate crusaders. They have no plan beyond giving people rebates on thermostats, home insulation and new windows & doors. That’s the issue, and if you would take off your blinders and ear plugs you might learn something. Another thing, Canada’s reducing its emissions won’t have any effect on global output.......here’s the UN’s info for you to ruminate on, so next time Wynne or Trudeau try to convince you that It’s up to Canada to save the world so we have to bear the brunt of taxes remember it’s bullshit. It’s their way of shaming you into paying more taxes without justification....IN CANADA CARBON TAXES ARE NOTHING BUT LIBERAL TAX GRABS!!!

Documents just came out showing that Shell knew that climate change was real and their products caused 4% of global CO2 emissions alone. In 1988, while they were funding disinformation campaigns for people like moviefan and Phil McNasty.
http://nationalpost.com/news/world/...hell-foresaw-climate-change-three-decades-ago

Exxon also did similar research, buried it and funded disinformation programs as well.
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/exxon-knew-about-climate-change-almost-40-years-ago/

Which is why Exxon is being majorly sued right now.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...t-to-stop-climate-change-probes-idUSKBN1H536R

Those are the real culprits, they knew about it and then tried to hide the damage from climate change. The denier funded lobbyists still have people like Phil and moviefan fooled, along with about 30% of Canada.

Exactly.
And you replied:

$13
what part of
the opportunity cost of business investment moving south of the boarder is many magnitudes higher than what the governments will collect from the tax
do you not understand?

I just shake my head in astonishment when I see you just ignore facts that invalidate your position

Pay attention...... nobody here is doubting climate change. What we don’t believe, is what our governments are selling as a policy of GHG abatement.....BULLSHIT CARBON TAXES that are simply a way of raising money for broke assed liberal politicians

Carbon tax is just a cash grab

(amount used I just made up)

lets say I use 10cubic meters of natural gas per month to heat my house at a cost of lets say for ease $10.00 I keep my house at 66 all day when im at work and 70 when im home I cant get more efficient new furnace new windows ect I NEED to heat my home

so carbon tax comes in I still use 10 cubic metes of gas to heat my home but now I pay $12.00 instead of $10.00 for it

HOW does me paying more per month for the same amount save the planet???

Plain and simple. For the investment in the reduction of Green House Gases.
Problem is that the Climate Change deniers will always try to nitpick on the carbon tax that even Harper was in favour of.
So cash grab is the usual bs touted by these deniers.
Case & point...that is not an answer that explains how they calculate the amount of tax collected and how it impacts the environment.
Has nothing to do with denial of anything.
The Liberals can not explain how the actual money collected will impact emissions.
And that is the problem with this.

You can try and deflect any way you want, but you cant deny that the Liberals have no idea how this tax will actually help mathematically. They have yet to provide that answer. When they are asked point-blank, they don't answer it.
Which renders this tax a cash grab.

What is the benefit of us keeping a military force? We are part of a community of nations that has decided to act, so we have to go along with our partners. I don't believe too much in the science behind global warming myself, but the benefits are a reduction in all the other poisons that are emitted with CO2. Also it will create jobs.
Height of ignorance. Maybe you should take time to understand what our military men and women do. Good grief.

"It's a bit of a paradox, here," Gurria told The Canadian Press. "In Canada, you have a situation where you have a very strong political will to reduce, but effectively it has not gone on the planned road.

"In the United States, you have a government that has pulled out of the (Paris) agreement, but in the United States you are having a reduction in emissions."

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-greenhouse-gas-emissions-rise-oecd-1.4383272

And let’s not forget the Kyoto retreat.

The European Union spendd about $35B per year to fight the climate bogeyman. By their estimates it will have saved 0.06C of global warming by 2100. Sound like a good deal to you? People are truly fucking nuts if they think this is a good investment.

Ironic that the Liberals are forcing green energy and carbon taxes on us for their kool-aid sale of climate change benefits, etc, etc...yet own a stake in one of the biggest polluting coal plants in the US.
Hmmmm.......
That couldn't be liberal hypocrisy at play could it? Hmmmmm...
OMG do the Liberals know how to manipulate their flock of sheep!

Imagine what $35 billion year per year spend on instead of waste on climate bogeyman! $35 billion per year could feed the poor and shelter the homeless or free university tuitions for student or money spend on research to cure Multiple Sclerosis or Alzheimer or Parkinston or Cure cancer. Or clean water for developing countries like Africa!
The climate alarmist are fucking nuts!! And of course money grabbing politicians need more revenue tools ( aka FUCKING TAXES!!)

Trudeau is a fucking liar, out one side of his mouth he’s the green avenger, out of the other side he’s all for pipelines and oil sands jobs. Then blames everyone else for his shortcomings on all things.

Umm Sorry, Conservitives approved the Alberta Clipper and the Canadian portion of the Keystone and the Nothern Gateway which JT Killed. JT also killed Energy East with new NEB Rebulations and then had the tenacity to say he approved Transmountain because of the Fair Process it was put through, Which is the previous NEB rules that he has since changed. WOW!! Also the Harper Government was not able to approve the Transmountain or Enbrige line only because they hadn't been throuigh the NEB process before the Libs were voted in. These are all well known easily found facts. It's almost insulting he thinks we will be pandered to ike this.

$35 billion is what the US is paying per year in climate change linked extreme weather damage.
https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/24...-accountability-office-extreme-weather-events

Imagine how much more they'll be paying as the global temp goes up.

The EU is spending about $30 billion a year in extreme weather damage costs.
https://www.independent.co.uk/envir...eople-dead-lives-1980s-eighties-a7545736.html

Damage costs will go up nearly exponentially with global temp increases.

British Columbia is losing coastline to the Pacific, part of the problem with melting permafrost. It hasn't reached as far south as Vancouver yet but that's only a matter of time. Which is why they are so vehemently opposed to the Transmountian pipeline. And the Northern Gateway would have destroyed the northern BC fisheries, most importantly salmon stocks would have collapsed.

You can choose to be a climate skeptic, that's fine. You half to ask yourself, how much environmental degradation are you willing to tolerate? All it takes is another Hurricane Sandy, the next one will probably hit Toronto hard, and draconian measures will be implemented. I'm against a carbon tax, it's a feeble response which will spur people/industry to pollute more. But you won't like the alternatives.

You're right Kirk, climate change has been a growing problem since the Industrial Revolution.

It was aggravated by WWII and the nuclear race between the US and the USSR nearly caused our extinction. After the Czar Bomba, the accumulation nuclear fallout was eating away the ozone layer. That would have allowed The Sun's ultra-violet rays to reach Earth - slow death by melanoma.

Why do you say its a bad investment, think of all the poisons they keep out of the air along with the CO2? Its only 68 per citizen, it creates employment, develops new tech. Also CETA has linked us to the EU and international trade agreements. So Canada has made its choice. Do you think that is more or less crazy then the US spending 800B on defence?

climate change has been an ongoing issue since the earth was formed 4 Billion years ago.
We just has an ice age 10,000 years ago
The planet has and will continue to evolve and change

Has mans activity influenced climate change?
The amount of historical data available is miniscle relative to the history of the planet
Ice core samples maybe helpful in theory......... in theory!

There is no absolute "Yes or "No" to the question "Has mans activity influenced climate change?"

What is clear is it would be the biggest sin mankind (not person kind) has ever committed if we cause our own extinction & do not act

That having been said
a) Canada's efforts will not make any difference if the US,China & Russia do not act
We will just weaken our economy & ensure more emissions are generated in those countries
Justin will claim he took a leadership position on a sinking ship, while driving economic activity elsewhere
b) A carbon tax (in any form) only makes sense if ALL the revenues are directed to development of cleaner technologies.
Sadly these monies will be directed to general coffers & increased wasteful government spending

The end result is perhaps slow roasting of the species and bigger more wasteful government
