interesting..
I think there will be less uproar at 2am and 4 am but 3am is a clearly the worse time to be interrupted. Twitter did a survey apparently.

In all seriousness, I think this is good so long as it is used properly. Not like what happened in the US a couple months ago.

I'm sure I read somewhere that a lot of SP's especially hate being disturbed at 3:00 a.m.

Should be fine as long as that guy that sent the ballistic missile warning in Hawaii isn't managing the alerts

I guess potentially dying is a small price to pay for some peace and quiet at night right? Those pesky forest fires, earthquakes, ballistic missiles, nuclear plant meltdowns, and Godzilla attacks.

REALLY!!! These alarms are not for telling you a snow storm is coming but serious life threatening situations that require serious attention such as evacuations. Perhaps the O.P. thought it was things like amber alerts for a rise in potential terror threats or child missing. Noooo only serious immediate situations threatening public safety.

Check the facts hon. Amber alerts are included.

One of the uses of these emergency message is actually for Amber Alerts. I don't see a problem with this because how often are these issued? How often is there going to be a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, forest fire, etc. that affects Toronto? When that happens, we're all fucked big time so getting woken up at 3am will be the least of our worries.

If you live near the airports or downtown, you're already woken up much more frequently in the middle of the night.

I turn my phone off at night. If I miss an alert then I guess it means I will probably die or be kidnaped by terrorists.

It’s a risk I’m willing to take for a good night’s sleep.

Is it as simple switching your phone to silent to avoid alerts?
I think that defeats the purpose of the alerts. Might want to brush up on your knife and shotgun skills just in case the apocalypse comes and your phone doesn't wake you up.

Not saying I'd turn mine off, as I never do but it's an option for people who are concerned about being woken up.

You’re being ridiculous.

If you don’t want an amber alert at 3am, why don’t you just turn your phone off?

Or get a second phone with a SIM from somewhere without amber alerts and just keep that on if you’re the type of “person” that family or friends may need to be in-touch with at all hours of the day or night in the unlikely event of an emergency?

Indeed unless the world has come to an end -- in which case presumably this is no longer of any import. You wake up look drawn the binds, look out the window, turn on the local television news --- and if there is something you should know, they will be discussing it.
