Last night around midnight a group of 30 masked dressed in black hoodlums marched down Locke Street a trendy area of Hamilton with shops bars cafes etc with a banner swing "We are the ungovernable! Setting off fireworks,damaging cars throwing rocks through windows. Police were dispatched but they took off before any arrests could be made. My wife and I and some friends had just left around 1115. They say the youth of today are the future of our country. God help us all!

They were in town for an anarchist fair in the west end (that's sounds like an oxymoron). They are all likely from torrannah, likely a bunch of G20 'Black Block' wannabee posers. Next time have the anarchist fair at the safe injection site. The store windows down there are already broken.
Being born and raised in Hamilton and now living in Toronto for longer than I care to admit, I don't know if I'd agree with that. (Typical Hamilton thinking though.... blame Toronto.)
From what I read, there was some anarchist book festival on in Hamilton, but down on Canon Street. This BS happened on Locke Street. Their target location (Locke Street) was no fluke. It's the one and only gentrified area of Hamilton. If these idiots were from out of town, they had local help.
This kind of shit drives me bananas. You have hard working people trying to run a small business and employ people in the city and I guarantee, none of them is getting rich. You have the people in the area who also work hard to make a living and build something decent for them and their families in their community and then you have losers like this who think it's funny or some sort of cool to hide their faces and smash business, homes and cars. In the name of what? Being "ungovernable". Make me laugh you bunch of little twats. I guarantee every last one of them uses everything that our civilization provides for them and more. Bunch of hypocrites.
All the cops have to do is catch one of these little losers and the rest will fall into place. This was not a spontaneous act, it was organized and it was undoubtedly organized electronically. It will leave a trail.
I can only hope that they get real hard time.

A lot of them are college age guys from upper-class homes. They're playing at politics and are just acting out because they're young and full of hormones. They also tend to get infiltrated by cops, who like to keep close tabs on them. Which means - as we saw during the G20 police riot - that cops are complicit in aiding and abetting these events. After them follow calls for more police, more surveillance, etc. Fuck.

Your description is more apt for James St North, not Locke St south where this took place. Even today if they pulled this shit on James St they would have caught a beating.
The Globe and Mail is reporting that one of the idiots who was there posted on his blog that the motive behind the destruction of property was that the entitled little losers are all up in arms about the gentrification of the Locke Street area.
Now that one of these roaches has come out into the light, it is my ardent hope that the cops find him through his blog and send him to prison. All the cops have to do is nail one of them and then trace the electronic trail to the entire gang of losers.
