Maybe the logic today is that the term 'humankind' discriminates against non-humans. Lots of people - pet owners in particular- personify animals as if they were human all the time so maybe animals are considered people now.

Christa Freeland is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. She's also a bit of a prevaricator. Like saying that her grandfather stopped working for the Nazis in 1939, when he actually ran a local Nazi propaganda rag in Ukraine until 1944 when the Russians kicked them out. She keeps on blaming Russia for the famine that hit Ukraininans in the 1930's. Yeah, so the Russian people elected Joseph Stalin, right? and Stalin let everyone know he was starving them to death? Besides that, Stalin wasn't even Russian. He was Georgian, along with his NKVD secret police chief Beria. So why doesn't Freeland direct het hate at Georgians, not withstanding that ordinary people had nothing to do with Stalin's policies. Freeland, the worst foreign minister we've probably ever had.... appointed just because she's a woman.
Was he making a joke when he compared the returning jihadis to immigrants? Well, I and every immigrant I know were not amused. Not one bit. Our PM is an immature imbecile.
