What are those movies that you keep secret from friends, where instead you try to seem intellectual by dissecting plot lines from Citizen Kane? The movies that are shown on a wintry Sunday afternoon on A&E and you have to stop and watch when you should be more productive.

For me it's;
Roadhouse. As a raging hormonal adolescent when this was out, let's just say I wore the shit out of this part of the VHS (and the chafing, my god the chafing)

For me a guilty pleasure would be something most other people would figure I'd take a pass on because it's not a standard action/thriller/suspense/horror. The general category would be either rom-coms, cheap action thrillers, crappy comedies, or movies that have horrible reviews but I seem to enjoy.

Rom-com - "You've got mail"
cheap action - old Schwarzenegger movies like Total Recall and Commando, JCVD and Jackie Chan movies, Ninja movies, Enter the Dragon
Crappy comedies - Weekend at Bernie's

I once watched a bunch of Bollywood movies. The singing was annoying, the action sequences were messed up, but the people were good looking and sometimes the comedy, although cheap/basic, actually made me laugh.

OK, I'll bite. I'll try to keep it to non-revered, guilty pleasure movies

I enjoy semi(?)-brainless rom-coms...so relaxing. So I have a few categories for those:

Cheesy Christmas rom-coms: The Holiday, Four Christmases
Nasty rom-com: The Break-Up
Regular rom-com: Spanglish, Miss Congeniality, The Proposal
Not-Really-a-rom-com: The Intern
Creepy rom-com: The Cable Guy, Little Children (more of a rom-drama)
Sad Rom-com: 50/50, Election
Underrated Apatow rom-coms: Funny People, This is 40
BDSM Rom-com (haha): Secretary
Romantic Drama: The Adjustment Bureau

Some random choices in other categories
Action: Pacific Rim, They Live, most Korean vengeance movies, most Rambo movies (including First Blood), Hancock, Unbreakable (more drama than action), Jackie Brown
Horror: Ravenous, Rob Zombie movies (including the Halloween remakes), Rabid, Dead End
Journalism movies: All the President's Men, Spotlight, State of Play (all good movies so they don't count here. I'm just a sucker for those)
Most Cronenberg movies, especially Eastern Promises
Just about anything with Bruce Campbell
Just about anything with Sidney Poitier
Comedy: I'll need to think about this category. Some random ones off the top of my head - Clerks 2, Keeping Up With The Joneses, The Other Guys, Midnight Run, Planes Trains & Automobiles
Sci-Fi: The Matrix trilogy, Her, All Alien movies (including the Prometheus series), Primer, Looper, Coherence
Foreign Dramas: Amores Perros, Sin Nombre
Sports movie: Goon (and Goon 2)

Agree on Roadhouse.

Happy Gilmore.
Old Connery Bond films.
Wanted Dead or Alive(Rutger Hauer actioner and Gene Simmons as a Muslim Terrorist)
Raw Deal, Commando, Terminators and Conan.
(The meaning of life? To slay your enemies, drive them before you, and hear the lamentations of the women. They don't write dialogue like this anymore)
Snapshot
Cobra.

In TV I've always liked the teen dramas. Loved 90210 and Buffy. Now it's Riverdale.

Love DC animation movies.

I think this is a great list but many of these are quite popular amongst the general crowd. Though your "anything with X" made me think, for some reason, of Pauly Shore and Encino Man and Jury Duty which are both funny. I guess I was thinking about all the "X"'s that are not most people's COT and generally despised. Add to it any of the Ernest movies (Ernest goes to Jail) and some of the Pee-Wee movies.

Riverdale is great. I'm with you on all the teen drama shows, including TVD, Originals, Angel.

Twilight. Don’t judge! Lol!
I'll shamefully admit I liked the books and the first movie, which I can now admit is crap, followed by 4 movies that got crappier each time. I didn't realize it was possible to make something more terrible each time but they succeeded.

Shows I've started recently (sorry, I know the title said movies) are Grey's anatomy, the Mindy Project, and Greenleaf. I think Mindy definitely belongs in the "Guilty Pleasures" category after someone joked "So, when did you lose your balls?" when I told them about it.

True enough. I'll try to think harder.

I think Will Ferrell is funny but not necessarily his movies. But I'll go to bat for Step Brothers (probably doesn't count) and The Other Guys. Another rom-com I like that people find boring/long: The Five Year Engagement.

Most Will Ferrell movies don't do it for me. I just don't find him funny (he was great on SNL). However, the Other Guys was great and I plan to see Daddy's Home - I think the key is that the duo with Walhlberg works.

The other group of movies are all the parodies, some which are great, others that fall flat, and those that for some reason are funny. Naked Gun, Airplane, Scary Movie series, etc. The old Pink Panther Movies with Peter Sellers are fantastic.

My guilty pleasure films, the Tojo monster movies. I never outgrew them - even though King Kong was a drunken lush.

Yup....I would agree with those, and any of the Die Hard movies. Die Hard 1 and 2 - great Christmas movies.
Oh yeah. Die hard 3 was also amazing - Samuel L Jackson when he's kind of pissy and swearing is always great. #4 was also pretty good too. But #5, when they go to Russia - WTF? Huge let-down.

I will add the Saw series to the list. The problem is the 1st one was, IMO, one of the best movies, period. The idea, the story, the characters. I cannot think of a dull moment. Then each sequel started to decrease in quality, the "traps" were not so inventive, and it was clear the goal was more carnage/death versus a legitimate trap where the person had a chance to escape (although almost none ever do).
