I've been listening to Howard Stern on/off for over 20 years.

Some would say that's not something to be proud off. Others attempt the shock jock genre and fail, they don't have his perspective. And when he makes a call, more often than not he's correct. His Trump prediction is unfolding as he called it, he also said Megyn Kelly would struggle at NBC.

People wanted to do stupid things on his show and he obliged. He's also more neurotic than he is self-absorbed - a George Costanza with a brain. He has been guilty in the past on goofing on "Giant Lips and Teeth" a bit too much, but he is the highest paid member of his staff for a reason. Without Ba Ba Booooey, the show would be chaos. He's also a keen judge of talent, he gave Paul Giamatti his first break playing Pig Vomit (an early program director) on Private Parts. He's mellowed over the years but he still can get you laughing uncontrollably - especially when he parodies his parents.

Stern can't always get what he wants.

His last guest on terrestrial radio was Paul Giamatti. The actor made Cinderella Man with Russell Crowe. Crowe had gone asshole in a NY hotel and got his ass arrested. Gladiator is one of Stern's favorite films. Stern pleaded with Giamatti to get Crowe to come to satellite radio and come clean, the surly Aussie wouldn't do it. The interview with Giamatti is outstanding, unfortunately unavailable.

he has that sidekick that agrees with every fucking thing he says . No one is allowed to disagree with him . A true commentary on society is he is so popular. I tried to listen to him until one day he was teaching himself how to fart at will by swallowing air.

the best thing I can say is he was the best incompetent judge ever on AGT as they are all incompetent . A lot of AGT is contrived, esp the amateurish magic acts. I doubt he gave his talk show audience the real low down on AGT IE their exploitation of workers as no one gets paid except the winner who gets 400k not a million FFS as the payout is over a number of years while he got rich being another judge with no qualifications


I think you are wrong about his intelligence though. He figured out WTF the masses want and gave it to them, he is more uneducated than unintelligent IMHO

His level of self-deprecation has allowed me to have a better sense of humour about myself. Without him being so open about his own psychological therapy, I'm not sure I would have pursued it myself and that has been a great help to me.

He is not afraid to take an unpopular opinion and is a defender of uneducated things such as free speech and minority rights.

Which is not to say that I agree with everything he says or like everything he has done. It's also possible to learn from somebody you disagree with, but only if you're willing to listen.

I've been listening to Derringer ever since he took over from Stern. Derringer has never mimicked Stern. Derringer can be overbearing (more so in the past than now), but he is quite intelligent and has a remarkable memory.

Stern is just toilet humour all day all the time. Unbearable to listen to.

Stern has become horrible. He is not that funny, and invests zero in the show. When he was a ringmaster with a lot going on, it could be entertaining. Those days are long gone.

He has also become incredibly politically correct and implications are his listener-ship is a fraction of what it was in the 90s.

It is amazing he has not been caught up in #metoo given his horrible and misogynistic treatment of women over the years (for example, the death of Dana Plato has always been associated with Stern's treatment of her the day before she committed suicide).

I only listened to Stern sporadically a long time ago when I had Sirius radio. Aside from that, I only heard his old stuff on internet recordings (which were funny), but listening to his recent stuff he's a different guy. And his studio colleagues are different too. Everyone is probably 60, so it's a different world than when they were 30 or 40.

Very funny guy if you can stomach his kind of humour.

He's also very smart. Don't let all his Lesbian Dating Game and KKK bits fool you. When he pushes aside the jokes and talks serious for a few minutes, his opinions make sense. it just gets covered up because soon after he's talking crude jokes again.

I got my subscription to Sirius/XM a few months ago, since then its paid for itself. I was at a meeting in midtown, turned on Q107 for the ride home. Nothing but commercials all the way up the 400, I finally got to my exit on Langstaff when, out of the goodness of their heart, they played some music. It was Honeymoon Suite, enough was enough. I got a subscription The minute I got home.

Stern has been at it since 1976, you can't expect him to be like he was. He reached his peak while going through divorce from Alison, unfortunately her outstanding contributions to the show are not aired. He's mellowed since he got his trophy wife. In the 90's he would not have gotten a chance to interview Dan Rather. He still does goofy shit, during Cocktober, Michael Rappaport had to judge the cock painting competition in order to plug his book. I couldn't stop laughing.

As for Dana Plato, I'm not sure what role he played in her death. It appeared more like a death by misadventure than an actual suicide. Judge for yourself:
