What a bunch of knuckle dragging neanderthals we have here. All women are asking for is to work in an environment where their ass isn't grabbed or they aren't looked up and down by some old decrepit geezer who is above her. Pretty rich too that guys are the ones claiming 'the new mccarthyism'. Kind of like priveledged white guys saying that racism is way overblown. Sorry old white guys, you had your run. Hope you enjoy it while is lasts.
No doubt the movie industry seems shady, but there's surely lots of good people too. The MeToo hashtag is now spread and used by anyone who wants to tell their tale about sexual harrassment. And the whole thing is basically an aim at guys.
The thing is, and I'll be honest, most people don't give a shit that a million people want to tell their tale. And I can tell that is fact because a lot of the people tweeting it kept it secret themselves and only now tweet it because Alyssa Milano encouraged people to do it. If someone doesn't want to act upon someone sexually assaulting them, and only resorts to tweeting it 10 years later, it goes to show people are weak and don't want to stand up for themselves.
Nobody ever said it's ok for a woman to be sexually assaulted.
The key difference is that men and women are different. The fact MeToo is probably tweeted 99% by women doesn't mean zero guys get taken advantage of at work either..... whether it's sexually abused or a different kind of abuse. The difference is that most guys don't care, or will bother doing a MeToo campaign. It's just something that guys usually do.... and that is suck it up.
For example at an old shitty job as a summer student, my female supervisor palmed my tit. No joke. I was wearing some name tag thing and some reason she took a liking to it. Instead of just looking at it, or maybe just gently touching the tag, she literally put her whole hand on my tit. So some 40 year old supervisor grabbed my 20 year old chest. Looking back pretty stupid thing to do, but to be honest I didn't really care. Not because I had a hard on for her or anything, I just didn't give a shit.
It's like crude jokes and toilet humour. I bet anyone here that men are likely to laugh at stupid and dirty jokes more than a woman. On the other hand, women seem to get more disgusted at dumb jokes. I can't tell you why that is but it is. It's been that way whether it's kids at 10 years old joking at recess or 50 year olds with a family.
So given that, the campaign looks one-sided. And nobody even knows what is even defining MeToo. There's a big difference between someone getting sexually assaulted, and someone who takes offence to a coworker making a pass at her because he likes her and wants to take her out for a date. Or if a man wants to flirt a bit, that may be seen as a sexual assault.
But somehow the women who dress provacatively, dolling themselves up, and sucking up to bosses by laughing at all their jokes is ok, and not sexual abuse even though they are flaunting themselves around the office and everyone is whispering behind her back what the hell is she doing walking around like that?
The problem with blankets protests like this is that it puts the bullseye on unintended people. It's really no different than BLM or the reasons for increasing minimum wage.
BLM's message was cops are assholes. Very public protests brandishing all cops, when in reality the number of bad cops doing stupid things is small. but it didn't matter because Bob the parking meter ticketer is getting labeled hating Black people because there's a blanket protest going on.
Wynne saying companies should pay up because they make billions. Again, poor blanket reasons. Only a small number of companies are huge and can easily afford it by dipping into corporate coffers. However, most companies are not corporations. So that's why you never see any politician bring up $14-15/hr against Sally's Nail Salon, or that small cafe that is barely afloat because Tim's and Starbucks down the street gets all the business.
As for your line about privileged white guys, it goes to show to you have an axe to grind against white people. Bill Cosby and Tiger Woods are two black guys (Tiger is half Black) who used their power and fame to take advantage of people or do affairs. This issue more about abuse of power, than making it a "white guy vs. the world".
And besides, even if you want to believe it is a race-based issue, sorry to say, but white people (especially men) are still in power. Most business leaders, most successful and aggressive entrepreneurs, political leaders, and best paid jobs are done by guys. And even with the huge influxes of rich minorities (Asian business moguls, Black celebrities, Middle East royal princes etc....).... they are almost all men too.
