Levels had to be determined, and your level had been deemed insufficient, long beforehand. You'll qualify soon enough, once you reach a certain amount of postings. Just FYI, a review doesn't have to mean a review that you start yourself, just adding information to an existing review counts towards your level as well. It doesn't have to be massive novels, just short notes will do as well. Also as has been said within the "Semi-Pro" thread, if you can't wait till you get to that level, you can still gain access to the list by providing the name of a provider that may fit in that list.....
Now I'd say this discussion took an interesting turn.

No interested in joining a private forum just hopeful that those who have will not completely destroy this forum for the rest of us. You call the Lurkers selfish? How hypocritical.

With all due respect, dynomyte, you don't have to join a private forum if you don't want to. That's your choice. I find amusing to read people complaining about private forums... but also unfair because in fact you are probably complaining just because you don't have access to what is going on there!

Terb is new for me, I join Terb only this year but have been in the industry for a number of years now. When I found out about that private forum, I was first denied access, base on the low number of post I had. They told me to provide some eligible contributions as a workaround to my low number of post on Terb. I did it and I am in... just simple like that.

People on Terb shares info, but anybody can write what he wants here... no matter that he is a trusted or a non-trusted person. Private forums bring together info from people that have valide and verified experiences. These people have 2 things in commun: 1- they are hobbiest 2 - they are looking for certain type of providers (ie: quality). Access to that kind of private forum is simply a +. You have access to specific information that you will use in your search of quality services; in return, you share to other some info that you have.

We are in Canada, in a society where in public we want to look politically correct at all time. We prefer not to say certain things publicly. Although sometime things get heated here on Terb, in general we look for civilized interactions and a number of information won't be share just because it doesn't look (or sound) good. So to have access to a private environment where I can read easily green, yellow or red flags, while being confident that the info is accurate, is very convenient for a guy like me. I hate wasting my time and I go where I know that I will get what I want.

Private forums are, in fact, the same general idea than Terb at the exceptions that it's not everybody who can have access, there are specific info that you may not find on Terb and personally, I trust more the info on them. This is nothing new, this is nothing unusual. You probably know that providers have their own forums where they can discuss and share info about clients. Some providers look at them, some don't! That's each other choice.

As far as I'm concern, the destruction of Terb is certainly not the goal of those who have join a private forum and I really don't understand what benefit it would give them.

Cheers
The D.

Here is my 2 cents for what it's worth. (Hopefully at least 2 cents). It took me awhile to get to 50 posts to qualify for the list. Although I've had an account on here for a few years I never really used it until the last year. Mist if my posts have come since the spring so I don't consider myself a lurker. Having recently been given access to the list, I find that the biggest thing is that most if not all info is already in TERB. It just saves time in searching through all the providers on BP and trying to remember if all are real or not and at a decent value. I could have saved time and provided info on SPs but I thought they would have all the information. I was surprised to not see a couple if SPs I've seen not on the list. (I guess I owe you an email ).

I like when people are in here and share there opinions and experiences. However I have no issue if a few people have decided to privatize their experience. It's a free country. Do what you want. I will continue to provide my experiences and opinions when ever I can.

These “Ellie” Ottawa hobbiests can go fornicate themselves.
Not sure who the elite are and why would they would be elite just cause they got sick of terb. I think the members on here that contribute nothing but always have an option of how you should do things is really very funny. Not you pool but so many others on here feel so entitled to be provided info without sharing back. Can someone explain it to me cause I don’t understand how people can be that ignorant and has made me stop posting reviews on terb.

To be honest I think I find The roasie board to be more informative than terb now.

This place really is starting to be shit and be very lame. Almost not even worth loggin in anymore.

Well said funfunfun. This board use to be useful when private lists and private blogs etc did not exist. Now that they do, the board is not useful . Lurkers will always be around and the board would be fantastic if everyone contributed. But now lurkers don't contribute and long time contributers don't contribute other than to defend why they have private lists and blogs.

Long time lurker but a new member just chiming in. I'm looking forward to contributing reviews.
The animosity is likely leading to any type of downturn and what could be making some lurkers remain lurkers. Over the last few months the longest and most posted on threads every week are those of members expressing an uneasiness with other members or of their opinion on the industry in Ottawa. So many threads of contributors picking on lurkers, low post count contributors picking on high post count contributors and high post count contributors picking on low post count contributors. I admit it's pretty funny to read sometimes. If some want to post privately let them, why the hatred. Negative threads and discussions like this one can only make matters worse.

Later,
It wasn't always like this though. This has happened in the last 2 years and directly corresponds with the 2 or 3 new members who joined, and 2 or 3 long time members who stopped posting. There was a vacuum created when they left and the "new guard" seized upon that and immediately wanted things changed by starting multiple polls about the way things "should be" instead of letting things be they way they are.

As I've told people before, they are taking this shit way too serious. Its paying for companionship, not life or death. Being this invested in a message board dedicated to sex is just...sad. I have my opinion on the way things should be but if things change so what? Doesn't affect me at all. So why fight it? People want private review blogs so what? Let them have it. It really doesn't matter.

Thanks for the reminder Nesbot. Well put. I have wasted too much time on this already. Back to worrying about the things that truly matter!

Terb has always been a nasty little site built on the charred remains of providers, rip-off artists, cons, vultures, newbie meat, shills and (mostly) innocent people like us. Been a member here for awhile and mostly found amusement in the drama. Hell, I've even had a whack at doing drama m'self. I'm such an asshole. Whatever, Terb continues to be an evolving critter but the human element at least remains consistently predictable.

The so-called elite forum is just a forum using a slightly different ideology. So what? No harm to anyone except to those who feel they have to take offence. But, if it serves any purpose, let's play this tug of war between sides until it's settled. Forgive me if I sit this little war out - I certainly don't feel the need to bang on anyone for building a new treehouse club. Good on them.

Wow. Private forums, elitest hobbyists with other forums, so much cloak and dagger stuff going on.

I've been around a bit and have a few posts under my belt and all this talk makes me laugh. You could consider PMs as private forums could you not? If a group of guys PMs among them would that be a private group? This stuff has been going on forever as many have said. Like minded individuals will always gravitate towards each other and share info. Some of that info will become public knowledge and other info will not ..... things that may get an employee in trouble or real YMMV stuff that should not be public. Experienced folks know what to share and who they can trust with some info.

Guess what? SPs have private forums to share info on us as well. And trust me, I'm sure they have lots to say that should not be made public.

Not sure if the OP was referring to the private blogs which would be considered private reviews. In reality it is a bunch of like minded guys who decided to share that way instead of PMs. Really just the way they share is different, not the fact they are sharing things privately.

The HVFM list is not private reviews as restated several times, it is a database of info. It was generally agreed on inception that to help keep it semi-private it had to be restricted to those that had earned some level of trust. Who made these decisions? Guys who posted and shared the info that went into the list. The requirements to access the list are IMO too easy to achieve but that was the consensus so we go with it. While on the subject I think 150/hh is way too high to be HVFM, I think it should be 120. I was overruled, did I cry? Nope. You want access you have to earn some trust, you don't want to do that STFU. Pretty simple.

I get a kick out the "Ottawa dying" threads and all the bitching and whining. I hobby more in Kingston than Ottawa and still manage to have a lot of fun. Kingston has not replaced Ottawa in terms of SP talent, it is still easier to hobby in Ottawa. Is it as easy as it used to be? No, it takes a bit more research to find the gems. There is plenty of good fun to be had if you know where to look. Research and use all resources available. Build a network of like minded people to share info. It takes time to nurture and develop but that is where you will get the best info.

Lurkers, shills, guys calling out both .... none of this is new. I had to earn trust years ago like anyone else, no one sent me a PM saying they were giving me some insider info because they liked my name. I developed trust and shared info with many over the years in many different ways. Most of that info I have shared publicly on Terb and other places. Some of it I shared privately via PM for various reasons. Terb has changed slightly over the years but sharing info is still best here IMO. There is always someone unhappy just make the best of what you got.
