For a few hours, something was funny with the TERB landing page. It asked for your user name and password in a dialogue box that was unfamiliar.

I don't know the actual name but something like a Man-in-the- Middle or spearfishing attack.

I have seen this before and it happened when someone hijacked a site temporarily to harvest active user names and passwords. Those user names and passwords were later used to access the user account, change their password and their email address. Then a ransom was demanded.

In another case the passwords were phished and the contents of the user's information and private messages were used to determine the real identity of the anonymous members.

So, now that I am back online, the first thing I did was to go check all my PM's to verify no personal information present. Then I erased all of the messages. I also changed to a much stronger password.

Always be careful online. Not just TERB. Although Fred does a great job despite the many hacking attempts, the exposure of your personal information being a user on such a Forum, and the content of our posts can pretty quickly identify individuals. Some might be vulnerable to blackmail / extortion etc. So guys... please be careful online!

Review your security settings: update your passwords and email addresses. If you're building or maintaining servers: make sure to keep up with operating system and software updates. The trick with setting up servers or networking gear is to never accept the default security settings because hackers know them.

Do not post personal information about yourself on escort review boards, not even in private messages.

Something strange is still happening. Enter terb.cc in the address bar and the advertisers landing page opens. No where to go from there.

The more social networking platforms you're a part of, the more vulnerable you are. This is why I never jumped on the Facebook bandwagon.

I get that too, but I have the forums on my favorites.

That is weird. Maybe the site is (still?) under attack?

In any case, this has certainly given me pause to reconsider my participation on any of these boards.

I like the reviews but the Lounge and now Politics have become somewhat of a timewasting procrasturbation activity. Good intelligent discussion is more and more diluted by the omnimpresence of Skyrider and his ilk. Last week he posted a threat in Politics to out the ethnic/religious background of a member he argues with. Post was reported and deleted. But a member (Skyrider) who makes such threats was not banned. I am not questioning the Mods at all. I understand they have a balance to strike. And Skyrider does indeed keep the post count high.

But to me, guys like him are like when your favourite bar or party starts getting more and more loudmouth assholes hanging around. At first, you can ignore them and carry on with your friends. But next thing you know they are just too much so you stop wanting to go in case they are there.

My registration email goes to a disposable single purpose addy, I checked my PMs for personal info and there was none there but I deleted them anyways.

This is why I don't do online banking..
Not only is online banking very secure in Canada, you have fraud protection if your account gets hacked.

Get and use a good password manager with a 2nd authentication USB key and you are Fort Knox!

Excellent information SchlongConery, it's always good idea to treat private messaging as "public" .
It is absolutely the best advice to threat the use of a "private" message as though it was "public" and can be read by anyone who wants to excess private messages! This goes for the workplace also not just review boards! I had a bad experience with private messages at my workplace and found out 1 of the office staff was reading our private messages,
so be warned "it's not private!!

If I'm not mistaken a password manager is something that remembers your various passwords. Isn't that something that can be hacked?

Wow, surprised you are back here on TERB Lynn.

Maybe I misinterpreted your comic graphic laden posts on another board, but you seemed to be rather gleeful on the demise of TERB. Or were you just playing along with the others?

Or am I mistaken and misinterpreting your posts? If so, please accept my sincere apologies.

Anything can be hacked.

But if you read up on password managers in general, you should be reassured that they are quite secure. Likely orders of magnitude more secure than what your current password habits are.

The biggest issue is that once you log onto your computer, then all your password protected sites are available to anyone with physical access to your machine. If it has not gone to sleep, been shut down or otherwise logged out of. I am sure this can be configured for certain websites. that you don't want to risk anyone else accessing. Like your wife or co workers. But if you live alone or have sole custody of your computer, a password manager is great.

You can even set it up with second factor authentication like a code sent by text message to another device, that you have to enter before your password is accepted. Or a physical USB Drive or a Yubikey.

Great info Schlong.

When I saw this unfamiliar style log in, I disregarded it as some sort of phishing scheme to get my user name and password.

I guess if TERB is under attack and the other board is not, then it's safe to say that TERB is #1, because nobody cares about #2 and below...:peace:

I recall that over the years that TERB has been the victim of many cyber attacks. From all quarters, not just competitors or some banned members. Do-gooder anti-prostitution groups etc.

For a while, there was a DDoS attack that rallied thousands of bots to make hundreds of search queries. It slowed everything down and I think crashed the site. That is why searches are limited to more than three letters and you have to wait one minute between searches.

SchlongConery, I do enjoy putting smiles on faces both in and out of my wicked bedroom as you are aware! All of my posts here and on the other board are all written for enjoyment only & in most cases will generate a chuckle or a grin. I've been with TERB since 2005 and through the years have always appreciated what this board has to offer for me personally. A large part of my business comes from TERB and it would be self defeating to see this board fail.
As an advertiser I rely on both boards for my contacts & income. It has never been my objective to cause harm, drama, or outing with any thread I have posted over the years. Hope this sheds some light on my agenda.

I do accept your sincere apologies

Lynn
