2016 True Second overall pick. JackJackJohnson loves him that much. He forgot he went second overall.
I'd take Crosby of course. Won 2 cups, OV none. Proof is in the pudding. Right/Left wing goal scorers are great but don't do what the number centres can do (the complete all round game). In their careers to date, Ovechkin (534) has more goals than Crosby (350). Who would you rather have on your team? (Crosby's production has been hurt by being hurt.)
You don't build a franchise around just a pure scorer. Laine is one dimensional can only score goals, (Leafs feared the Kessel syndrome) he is not likely to back check and make smart defensive plays that a centre does. Had the Leafs not needed a centre they would have taken Laine. Winnipeg got fuckin lucky cause the Oilers had the best odds of getting the number 2 pick. Could you imagine McDavid and Laine together?Patrick Laine's the real deal. Pure scorer, just loves to score goals plain and simple. He's currently tied for second in the NHL in goals, after Sidney Crosby. That's incredible for a rookie. It was a steal that Winnipeg got him with the second overall pick. IMO Laine is better than Matthews. I don't see any reason why Laine can't become at least as good as Steven Stamkos.
I'm not saying that you can build a franchise around Laine. I don't expect that Laine alone could ever lead Winnipeg to a Stanley Cup. In the same way that I don't think Tampa will ever win a Cup with just Stamkos, without somebody like Martin St. Louis for example who can make plays. Laine seems to be a bit of a selfish player - likes to score, doesn't like to pass. Reminds me a bit of Ovechkin in that regard. But that doesn't mean he's not a phenomenal player and a lot of fun to watch. And yes if he had landed in Edmonton with McDavid, the Oilers would be hoisting a Stanley Cup sooner rather than later. You don't build a franchise around just a pure scorer. Has Laine scored any empty net goals?Laine is in a slump of his own.
A player's number of Stanley Cups doesn't prove anything.I'd take Crosby of course. Won 2 cups, OV none. Proof is in the pudding.
But the Leafs needed to rebuild so they took the best centre in the draft. The Leafs drafted according to their needs.I'm not saying that you can build a franchise around Laine. Yes it does. Especially after 50 or so years for Leaf fans.A player's number of Stanley Cups doesn't prove anything.
Darryl Sittler/Zero
Murray Wilson/Four
Has Laine scored any empty net goals?
Using meaningless stats like shots against and 20 game points total only makes you look like a foolish troll. The True Number one for 2016.
GP- 22 Pts- 12/6
The true Number 2- Matthews:
GP-20 Pts-8/8
Apparently, Wayne Gretzky holds the NHL record for most empty netters (46).But what a cheap way to break a slump an empty net goal.

Laine has had the benefit of playing with Mark Scheifele who has already established himself as one of the best young forwards and along with McDavid will form the core of Team Canada for years to come.
Matthews on the other hand has been playing with other rookies and has only 2 fewer points with 2 fewer games played. He's also playing the centre position which is a lot harder for a rookie to adjust to the NHL than for a winger.
Math per JackJackNo need to name call...but if you do call people a foolish troll, don't come off as one yourself. Do your damn research before you chirp.
Matthews has played most of his time with Kadri who is more seasoned and matches mark's production. So what is your point?
You can't Fathom the thought that I actually believe Laine is the true #1? I HAVE to believe Matthews is or I am a troll? Truly asinine.
Maybe the two minutes you watched Matthews was playing with Kadri during a power play. He's been playing regularly with Nylander, Hyman or Brown the last few games. Kadri and Matthews centres different lines 5 on 5. Just another example of your ignorance. No need to name call...but if you do call people a foolish troll, don't come off as one yourself. OMG!!!!!! You watch the games? How special. You must be an expert on all things hockey. I am so humbled to be debating such a hockey mind like you.Maybe the two minutes you watched Matthews was playing with Kadri during a power play. There's no such thing as a "true No. 1". They're both rookies with great potentials, only Matthews suits the Leafs needs more than Laine. Maybe in five years' time we can tell who's the better player.
Nobody is denying that Laine is going to be a great scorer but to use 20 games scoring stats as a thermometer of future development of Matthews and Laine is just as foolish as your using 'shots against' to bash the Leafs in another post; and I wasn't the first one to call you a troll.
just like Laine doesn't play exclusively with mark...who is also still considered a NHL rookie, but whatever.
