I had to edit my previous reply as I misinterpreted the question. Oh I definitely support it. I m not talking about Oscar Pistorius kind or people who cannot hear. I am referring to those who have severe disabilities that require assistance from able bodied people. I find it sad that these people with severe disabilities cannot let themselves go as they are often supervised or criticized for being sexual.

If they needed special apparatus to perform the deed (eg: a chair harnessed to a ceiling fan) then I might suggest a subsidy for that.

My objections are two fold:

1) How do you define handicapped ? Is mentally handicapped count ? Oscar Pistorius is handicapped and didn't have a problem attracting models for sex. Stephen Hawking was confined in a wheelchair and unable to speak yet he married his nurse. If handicapped is a mobility issue and we subsidise sexual surrogates - I could see government subsidised brothels opening up beside chronic old age homes.

2) The concept of paying a sexual surrogate for anyone is an admission that physical sexual stimulation (as opposed to manual stimulation) is a medical necessity. If that is the case, it is also a necessity for ugly guys, the homeless and terb members to name but a few. If this is the case, the government should set up brothels which we can access by presenting our OHIP card.

I used to regularly see a disabled client in a wheelchair who was almost paralyzed. His PSW would get him ready for me before I arrived and then I would help get him ready for bed before I left. He was a sweetheart and I felt like a nurse.

OHIP is in severe monetary issues. You can't even get eye care covered and they cover sex changes. Weird system. Sexual surrogates? Nope.

Believe it or not it is cheaper to cover the sex changes than eye care due to the number of people requesting this service.
