Without Biyombo the Raps are weaker defensively and rebounding, and there's no insurance if JV gets hurt. I'm not convinced, yet, that Sullinger is an adequate replacement. Hope he can prove me wrong.

The only way that the Raps can get better than last year is for Ross to have a break out year, but that's more like a wishful thinking than a possibility.
I do agree with you but 17 million dollars for what Biz does is way to much .. The guy who they drafted with their 2nd 1st round pic can develop
Into another Biz but has more offensive upside ..

I think if Ross does up his game he maybe a great trade chip .. Now if Lowry goes down I then worry more then if JV goes down

Agree 17 M way too much for an offensively challenged player that has had 1 good year as defensive ball player. Loved him when he was he, but he was paid a lot less and wasn't going to kill the cap.
Ross, can not figure him out. Talent appears to be there but the effort rarely is.
Appears the Raps drafted well. Both #1's appear to belong and should get some playing time. As for Lowery going down, would be a big blow but Joseph and a healthy Wright should be able to hold the fort for a short injury, long term not so sure. Think the bench will be a lot deeper this year, at least, I hope so.
Still have not seen enough of Sullinger to know what he brings.

Wizards kicked ass!!!!! Not the way I would expect Casey to finish the pre season. Sullinger still hurt and on the bench. Bebe hurt in the first half and limped to the dressing room. Game was brutal, turned it off in the third as the Raps were getting their collective asses kicked. Hope they have more to offer than they showed last night!

Sullinger is out for 3 months at least ( with him having a weight issue for most of he career ) he may balloon while being hurt and it may take a long time after he is healthy for him to get into game shape ... I guess last years weak link is also this years weak link .. ie the PF position ... Lets hope the rookie works out well ...

Sullinger was hurt in the first exhibition game, why did we wait until now to get a diagnosis that said he needs an operation???? Was he hiding the seriousness of the injury?
No cap room to sign someone else so they may have to trade for a replacement if the rookies can't get it done. Wonder what they can get for Ross, surely their must be a 4 that matches up salary wise that might be a fit? Those draft picks are going to learn how to play NBA ball the hard way!

I am guessing at this, but the impression I have is Bennet did not give 100% when sent to 905, while the other 4 were putting forth an effort. I think they were looking for progression from him and did not get it. IMO he was horrible anytime they played him.
Bruno is a cheaper experiment. Doesn't Bennet collect a higher salary?

Mind you I think Bruno is a bust.

Bruno IMO is a bust, however he is 21, so he may still get there but so far not close. Think they consider him for the 3 position.
Bennet released last fall was making NBA minimum. Think the Nets signed him, have not bothered to see if he is still on their roster. Never has resembled a #1 overall pick!

Bruno is a 3 million cap hit but Bennet had a salary at Veteran Minimum 1.4 million ... Bennet was getting what Sullinger is getting now ...
Sullinger Raptors salary is approx. 5.6 million this year Bennet received veterans minimum from the Raps and is getting the same thing from the Nets

Wow what an opening night ... 70 points between two players ... JV looks like a monster out there and the rookie PF is doing his part to help ease the loss of Biz

Take the win, thank you. First game of the season, JV was awesome! Liked Pascal, he did a decent job at the 4, wish he was able to score a bit more. DeRozan scored 40 but 6 TOs. Need scoring from more than 2 guys. Bench scoring negligible. Lets see what they do against the Champs tomorrow.

So DeRo's 40 pts is equal to Matthews 4 goals for fist game of the season? Great start but I think the NBA is 2 team league.

I liked what I saw from Siakim. A few defensive miscues, but a solid performance all-around.

JV with a monster game. If JV and Ross can elevate their games this year, then this team will be trending into championship contender status in two years.

I doubt they will beat the Cavs Friday, but i'm liking what I'm seeing so far.

I know but a injury to Lebron ( which I never want to happen ) and the East is up for grabs ... I do like what I see in Ross ... He is actually more aggressvive on both sides of the ball .

DeMar DeRozan & Jonas Valanciunas are first teammates in NBA history with 40-point game & 30-point game in season opener (via @EliasSports)

Really? I still think he sucks! All I remember him doing was a steal, which he then dribbled across the time line and turned it over, then ran back and fouled the Pistons. He was a minus for the night, one of the very few Raps to be a minus.

After getting ousted by Clev in last year playoffs, you would think that the Raptors and the coaching staff would learn a new tricks to beat Clev. I know it is only two games into the season but Clev didn't do anything new to beat the Raptors last night. If Raps guarded the 3pt line, the Cavs kept finding the open man underneath the basket. Guard the basket they beat you with bombs outside the arc. And, Raps don't scare anybody with their 3pt shots attempt. They need to establish some consistency with guys who can rain the threes.
Again it's only two games but I am impressed with the rookie,Jakob Poeltl. What happened to Carroll? They brought him here to guard LeBron but sofar Carroll is a bust.

Any idea which Rap player might be able to "consistently rain down threes"? Ross is suppose to be a 3 point specialist and he had 0 points. I wasn't unhappy with the game last night. I think the Cavs are a better team, however had the Raps had a decent first half the probably get the W. The two rooks don't look out of place, and show they have a lot of upside. No question a healthy Sullinger should help, bit it might be Feb. before we see him. I don't have a problem with Carroll as a defender, however Raps need him to score more.
