Man was chilling on his porch. Cop confronted him and began questioning him, accusing him of breaking in to his own house. The man asked why he was being confronted for no reason. Cop got pissed and arrested him. Cop resigned before investigation could be held.

I can only imagine what it's like dealing with cops when you're black.

I am Asian, and my experiences with cops has been largely negative. Not so much in Toronto (except one case where the cop was a total dick). But in the States, it's really bad. I'll give you just a couple examples.

1)I was pulled over for speeding. I was driving my friend's car, which had plates that didn't belong to the car. The cop pulled me over and was very rude. He asked me, "Do you work in a restaurant?" What kind of question is that? I'm sure he asked it because I was Asian. He then had my car towed, and left me stranded in the middle of nowhere. He then pointed to a restaurant and said, "There's a restaurant over there."

2)A group of us had just gotten out of the car in a parking lot (four Asians). A cop confronted us and asked what we were doing. We said we were going to watch a movie. His response was, "You better hurry, the movie starts soon." Obviously, he had no clue what time the movie would start, and was just implying that we should get out of the parking lot, as if we were there to cause problems or commit a crime.

I find that American cops are extremely condescending and usually on some kind of power trip.

It's funny that his only charge was resisting arrest. So they arrested him for resisting an arrest?

It all went south when the cop said you have some prison tattoos, you've been to prison?

that stupid line escalated what should have been a normal, "you live here?" to provoking the young man into an altercation
Bad policing

A no name officer resigned before an investigation? How the hell were these body cams released if they weren't observed? Why were the guys charges dropped without an investigation? It sure looks like a legit video but the description doesn't make sense, it even says he was on the phone with his mother but that wasn't the case.

Imagine - your sitting on your own porch, enjoying the day and some cop walks up to your house and starts harassing you like that. "You have tattoos"? What does that even mean? He might as well just have said "you're black" - Brutal!

I personally have never had any trouble with the cops or law, but when I do get pulled over, it's "yes sir" "no sir" "three bags full sir". Cops want that respect and I give it to them because ultimately they are in control for the time being while I'm being stopped.

The only phone call I would make if I was in that situation is a call to my lawyer!

Here is a more detailed and accurate description of what happened. His name is Travis Cole and they were planning to strip his law enforcement credentials and press charges after reviewing the videos. He agreed to resign to avoid prosecution, it actually says both officers resigned. The live leak description didn't make sense but at least we can kinda trust cbc to tell the story a bit more accurately.

Doesn't seem like the other officer did anything. Maybe he covered up or something. Why else resign?

Bad cops like this resign, avoid prosecution, then become employed as cops all over again.

As long as there is a shortage of police this will continue to push the assholes to the top of the hiring list. If there were people lining up for the job I don't see why any department in their right mind would hire a trouble maker to give them a bad reputation and risk lawsuits.

So you think every black male will shoot or stab you?
Definitely, not every one.
Do you think every black male is an angel?

Have you? Seems like you do the same as well.
Yes, I have and I don't go around complaining about the police and taking cellphone videos of them like our friend Desmond does at every opportunity.

I find it pretty incredible that you have to train for 5 years to become a full ticket chef or plumber or electrician etc., but you can become a cop in 6 months.
That's why many are so unprofessional. Many of them also probably didn't do too well in school. They are insecure as well, and take it out on weaker people. I guarantee you that if I was a white male in a suit, driving a new Benz, the same cop wouldn't dare talk to me like shit. He knows that I may know people who could get him in trouble, or at the very least file complaints that will be taken seriously.

But cops in other countries are WAY nicer. In Japan, they are respected. In the UK, I see them act so professionally and courteously. It's only in the US that they act so crass. They swear, are rude, condescending, arrogant, entitled, prone to violence and excessive force, etc.

In Canada, I noticed the cops are a lot nicer and professional.

I think cops are a product of their society and culture. Japanese and British society are very different than American society, although I noticed more and more British police are being armed.

A few years ago, 2 British police officers answered a distress call. It was an ambush. I think one or both of them were killed.
