Question About Ontario Vehicle "Lemon" Laws

A friend of mine bought a very expensive new vehicle (over $150K) in June. After a week it developed a major mechanical issue. It has been in the dealer's service department for a full two months at this point. As in sitting there continuously. I know we don't have a real Lemon Law here like in the U.S. And that the arbitration through CAMVAP has no teeth. Do any of you folks have experience with this? He basically wants his money back but I told him that is unlikely but would look into a solution for him. Thanks in advance for any helpful comments. And BTW the way I am currently advising him not to lawyer up as the last thing he needs is the costs associated with that on top of everything else so that is a last resort IMO.

Is this a mass production car like Mercedes or it's those elite Italian brands? If it's the latter I'd write to the manufacturer...

Pretty sure 2 months is past the reasonable limit for warranty work. I imagine if he took them to court, he'd get his money back.

I'm no lawyer though. This is where I suggest he lawyer up. Or at least talk to a lawyer to see if he has a case. If he can afford a $150K car, he can afford a consultation.

One reason (among many) I never bought a truck is there is no lemon aid. Told dealers if truck was lemon they have to buy it back and the answer was flat no. How can I pay mortgage if truck is always in shop? Then haulers tell O/O to buy new to impress customers - haulers can go buy a new truck and I will happily drive it, which I do.

Total BS manufacturer does not have to buy back a lemon - solution is do not buy.

Same with cars - I buy used car with recorded history

What kind of car is it? CAMVAP will only help if the company is a participating manufacturer, not all are. If they are, CAMVAP will certainly help if they have a legitimate case. I know several people with "lemons" who won their cases and the dealers were ordered to buy the vehicles back.

Take your story to newspaper and see if anyone will publish it. Social Media the sh*t out of it ... tweet it and have everyone you know retweet. Include # for brand, model, and dealership.
