holly shit i lost about 6 grand on friday with the drop
If losing 2 or 3 percent is causing you to lose sleep you probably should avoid the stock market. You really want to be able to sleep soundly even if you lost 20 or 30% and be able to hang tight even if you lost half.

The market always recovers in the long run but people who panic at the thought of losing a little money end up buying high and selling low.

You only lose money if you sell during this panic and lock in the loss. High quality companies do fall in price even if they do everything right.

I lost a lot of money between November 2015 and February 2016. The market rose up again and I am back where I was a year ago. Don't panic. Take a long term view and don't try to time every up and down. I am very well off because I put money into investments for 30 years, regular contributions, and pretty much ignored the ups and downs of the market. The only exception was the financial market meltdown of 2008, when I got out of stocks and into bonds to ride out the drop. Think long term, not short term, and don't lose your nerve. If a short term loss causes you consternation put your money in your mattress.

But if you had invested in RIM and Nortel at over $120 a shares and you didn't dump it when it was down, you would have lost your pants.

Ordinary people shouldn't be investing in individual companies. Leave that to Warren Buffet, otherwise you WILL lose ALL your money.

Investing is all about indexes.

Who are the "ordinary people?" There are lots of people who have been investing in individual stocks for over 10 years, and they have been doing pretty well at it.

BNN is useless if you are investing. It's basically white noise in the background for financial professionals.

People who don't have money to lose - those that don't make millions of dollars in income.

Indexing requires patience, years/decades of patience to see consistent growth.

BNN, and research? By the time the "news" gets to you from any mainstream source about any company's status, the information is already outdated.

There a lot of people who don't make millions of dollars in income, and they have invested successfully.
And just as many who lose.

If there are so many people who lose money at casinos, then why are there so many people at the casinos?

You can say the same for lotto Max. People play lotto Max. But there are people who do hit the $50 million jackpot.

That's his point.

Best of luck becoming the next jackpot lotto winner or the next multimillionaire stock investor by beating the market.

You shouldn't play the stock market like it is a casino. Casino is just for entertainment purpose only. If you treat the stock market as a casino you will definitely lose whatever money you have in your account. And you shouldn't be in the stock market to begin with.
I am sorry smallcock but you are missing the point on all cylinders.
