So i went for an MRI and i was trying to pyche myself up so i don't feel closterphobic during it but i was more concerned about the iv. Then i find out there not putting any dye in me. I was like well why not and the nurse said it wasnt ordered. Isn't it better to have the dye for better results? she did say i could listen to music she said would you like classical i said no ill listen to some 80s so i got no music haha

I am in that field and tension and anxiety will definitely stress you out-the "dye" is called contrast and is generally used only for certain procedures and can create an allergic reaction in some people.

i've had 2 MRI's and both times i asked for the IV to try to relax me as i am super claustrophobic, its like being buried alive going into that machine. The last MRI they had to give me 3 shots to calm me down so they could proceed with the procedure.I have known friends who couldn't do it and they have no fear of closed in places.

It is the most relaxing time. No phones, no e-mails/texts to answer, no distractions, just meditate and almost fall asleep if they did not keep saying breath and hold.

The dye is typically only used for spine, hand or feet where the bones and tissues are tiny and need to be magnified. It is used sometimes with the head depending upon what they are looking for.

The dye is used for specific tests, usually related to the cardiovascular system. It makes the veins and arteries stand out. As far as it being claustrophobic, it has that affect on a portion of those who encounter it. The physician who sent you for the test should have covered this with you and helped with regards to this.

BTW, I hope everything turns out for the good or this is nothing more than a fact finding procedure.

I have had a couple of MRI's and they can be uncomfortable. They offered to put a towel over my eyes, which I chose not to do but I assume that a blindfold(those ones you get for flights) might be acceptable.
The more difficult part for me was having to lie absolutely still on my back on a a hard flat surface.
Good luck, your concern is a common one, wish I had some advice to give about overcoming the phobia

lol I find 80's music to be relaxing too, I recently watched The Breakfast Club again for the 20th time the sound track is great in that movie.

If they didn't give you any dye then they should at least have given you a happy ending. Damn budget cuts.
