I guess it's okay to have drugs in your car as long as you don't speed??

Whoever said anything about the court system being a search for the truth is a liar. It's not about the truth, it's about the proof. A trial is not to find if the accused did or did not break the law, it is a dissection of the evidence that brought him before the courts. Whether he did the act is inconsequential until that dissection is complete.https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/20...al-profiling-traumatized-by-traffic-stop.html

Judge didn't accept the cop's reasons for pulling them over. Although the cop's instincts appear to have been correct, the court didn't like it.https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/20...al-profiling-traumatized-by-traffic-stop.html

There's a lot wrong with the justice system in Canada. This, however, is not one of those things. The fact that they throw out a charge that stemmed from a wrongful stop and search makes me happy to see the judiciary doing its job for once. Glad and proud to be a citizen of this great country. But, hey - to each his own. If you want to live in a police state, I can recommend a few places for you.https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/20...al-profiling-traumatized-by-traffic-stop.html

Personally I'd rather have ten rulings like this than one that goes the other way.
Her crying about boyfriend's ruined basketball career is a bit rich though. Maybe spend more time on the courts, and less time driving around with scales and crack???

R.I.D.E stops everyone, its quite different.it would be safe to assume that you are all against the R.I.D.E. program then...
merely for efficiency purposes, the innocent are still stopped and questioned, would not be efficient for the cops to driving around and randomly pulling over carsR.I.D.E stops everyone, its quite different.
RIDE stops are legit because they are done for a valid Highway Traffic Act purpose. Random driving around and pulling cars over for a valid Highway Traffic Act purpose is just as legit as a RIDE stop. The reason it's legit is that driving is a privilege.merely for efficiency purposes, the innocent are still stopped and questioned, would not be efficient for the cops to driving around and randomly pulling over cars

In this case the purpose was not a Highway Traffic Act purpose. So it has nothing to do with RIDE. It was like stopping pedestrians for racial profiling reasons. Police states may allow it. Canada does not.
if there was any indication that the driver was high on any thing there would not have been an issue with the stopthanks for making my point, being high on drugs and driving around is not acceptable, the cop found drugs on the car which conerns me someone is driving around high on drugs which is more dangerous than a drunk driver, the cop demonstrated good judgement in pinpointing such occupants
I know what you mean but I take pride that the court tossed out the bad stop. I don't want to live in a society that stops citizens because an officer felt like it. The ends justifying the means is a slippery friggin slope....https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/20...al-profiling-traumatized-by-traffic-stop.html

And there's a lot of opportunities for 35 year olds to break into the NBA....

In practice you would quickly regret having it work that way. It's one of those things that looks ok on paper but is oppressive in reality and wherever you find it is in places you wouldn't want to live.Judge didn't accept the cop's reasons for pulling them over.
