Liriano for hutchinson is definately an upgrade. Basically gave up nothing for him. He may be out of his prime but when he's on he will give you 7.5in's. with 8ks

Here
So it seems to me that Shap-eye-ro's best play amounts to a hope and a prayer...

OTOH, I don't think there is much he could do other than take on salary because he has no tradable assets on the farm... there, too, a hope and a prayer.

So let's hope and let's pray... I think we are better than the Red Sox and the Orioles... but the ALDS or ALS against the Rangers or the Indians will really test this team's mettle!

And let us all say, Amen!

I take that back!

Francisco Liriano Has the potential to be a Happ of 2015. Turns into a star after change of scene.
When he first came onto the scene he was a star with the Twins. In just over a half season he put up Cy Young type numbers. Then he missed the entire next season because of Tommy John surgery. Was never able to regain his dominance, although he showed flashes of brilliance in 2010 and again in 2013-2015. Control has been his biggest nemesis and when you end up walking 4+ hitters per 9 innings it makes your stuff more hittable. And this season he's been batted around having given up a staggering 5.5 BB/9 and 19 dingers. Hopefully we can see the Liriano of the past 3 seasons make a come back. I also just realized Pitt gave us a pretty good 21 year old catching prospect in the deal by the name of Reese McGuire. Has yet to develop any power but way above the curve defensively. I can see him being under the tutelage of Russel Martin.

I don't think we did enough to keep us in contention with the likes of Cleveland or Texas. But you never know
To be fair, I would rate Feldman above Chavez by quite a bit

Everybody hates your negativity, Perry.

Shapiro did the best with what he could do, with the talent Jays had to afford to trade, and whatever trades from other teams which were available.

But Perry Mason will never be happy with anything. Its a sad story with you Perry, it always has been

Yup Cleveland and Texas were the big winners at the trade deadline (Cubs in the NL), but I think the Jays did enough to keep up with Bosox and the O's and hopefully win the East. Just want to stay out of the wild card fiasco.

Got rid of Hutch, Chavez and Morales who had no roles for us in the rest of 2016.
All in all, I'd rate the GM a B+ for effort. Should be a fun stretch run!

BTW, the Yankees just got a lot of top prospects in return for Beltran, Miller and Chapman. They will be dangerous in 2018, when they get rid of A-roid.

Man, they reeled a in massive haul of prospects. 7 of top 100: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2016

Yankee fans have mirrored Leafs fans this season: short term pain for long term gain. You can bet 2 of Harper, Machado, Donaldson, Jones & McCutchen will be in pin stripes that off season. And there's also Kershaw & Fernandez.....

2 great pitching performances wasted. Sanchez the other day and Stroman to-night. The offence needs to step up and support our pitchers. These extra inning games are also wearing down our pitching staff.

So from now on trades are restricted ????

What has changed concerning trades ???

Jays seem excited about Liriano

With Sanchez going to pen - next start may be his last - we have a quality pen worthy of a world series performance

Interesting to see what his role will be

Moving from starter to pen back to starter back to pen ..... that will fuck with his arm so Jays brass needs to be confident in move and make it stick

As of now any trades have to pass the waiver wire. It's to prevent teams from last minute sell offs. Teams have to decide if they are in or around out at this point for major trades.

I team will sometimes put a player on the wire to see if there is interest as they can pull them back.

Buck was making the case that if they want to bring him back into the rotation for the playoffs or stretch run, that's when he may extend himself and risk injury. And if for any reason Sanchez hurts his arm in the next 2 years, there's going to be a lot of second guessing that they lost the opportunity to win in 2016 (if we don't).

Lots of fodder for the armchair GM's.

Moving Chapman and Beltran were expected, but Miller and Nova were under control in 2017 which means they don't see themselves in serious contention until 2018. First time in maybe 30years the Yanks have openly revealed that they will not be in contention.

Feldman couldn't get anyone out last night and lost the game, also Jays set a team record by striking out 22 times which just isn't acceptable.
