Well I'm excited as fuck for this product, SUPERMEAT, it's meat, but not really.

A close friend is part the team and she is elated beyond words at how far they have progressed and the impact it will have.
More to come ....................obviously.

As whacky as this sounds now, not to mention creepy... it's inevitable. Industrial livestock farming simply isn't sustainable. It creates massive amounts of pollution, consumes ridiculous quantities of limited resources, and is incredibly inefficient.

What I found most disconcerting about the ad was that they never even mentioned that we won't have to slaughter animals and save them from inhumane treatment. If anything, that would be the most compelling reason for me to give up eating meat.

As you alluded to and many others I know, it's not sustainable. Naturally the dairy and meat industry have been lying to us for years, the craziest one of all, what cows milk actually does to our bodies. Yet dairy milk is promoted for its benefits, which are zero.
Remember the "got milk?" marketing lies?

Short of the long is, dairy milk acidifies in our bloodstream, so to neutralize the acidity calcium is drawn out from our bones to neutralize the acidity in the process we become calcium deficient. Ironic and digusting how we've been lied to for years.
This link explains it all, with some simple descriptions and images.http://sweetervegan.com/blog/the-truth-about-dairy

My friend who works with various companies in the non-meat industry met this guy in the UK last year during a stop over before going back go Wageningen Univ. She was sent this link and forwarded it to me.

These industries are so huge but science has advanced so fast, this is all just the beginning so to speak.

Apparently if more people went to a plant based diet we'd get much better use out of land and water.
That's the great thing about plants... They don't shit. Methane produced from decaying manure is one of the largest source of greenhouse gases. It's one of dozens of reasons to reduce our reliance on meat in our diets. On a worldwide basis, consumption of meat is increasing though, largely the result of changing diets on Asia. (They must have been envious of our heart disease rates!)

claims of vegan diets debunked

https://authoritynutrition.com/top-11-biggest-lies-about-vegan-diets/

Nutrient deficiencies are much more common among vegans:

Vitamin B12: 83% of vegans are deficient in B12, compared to 5% of omnivores. B12 deficiency can have serious consequences (59).
Iron: In one study, vegetarians had only a third of the ferritin (a marker for iron levels) of omnivores (60).
Vitamin D: Levels of Vitamin D are 74% lower in vegans, compared to omnivores (61).
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Vegans have 53% lower levels of EPA and almost 59% lower levels of DHA, compared to meat eaters (62).
A diet that makes the majority of people who follow it deficient in critical nutrients…

Sounds good. I hope I live to see the day when Super Meat becomes a reality and worldwide success.

Imagine the over-fished oceans replenishing again, forests able to rebound, and less pollution on a massive scale.

I will believe it after I've tasted it and after human experience proves that it doesn't have any ill effects or side effects.

My secretary tried to go Vegan but it tired her more. She said the protein is not the same.

Not that it's a bad idea to cut down on meat.

As for dairy products, my dietitian said that as a Type 2 diabetic, you must include some dairy. What's wrong with yogurt or low fat milk?

I would be concerned about anti-biotics or hormones in meat or dairy.

It's an interesting link and is alarming when it comes to animal cruelty, but if milk protein increases your blood pH, doesn't the calcium in the milk itself more than offset any loss in body calcium to balance your body's pH?

The cruelty free milk products have no protein or less nutrients unless artificially added.

This is pretty awesome. Now we can know what it is like to eat Lowland Gorillas, Black Rhinos, African Elephants and other endangered species without having to worry about making them extinct from eating them (ok maybe not from over hunting but at least we can eat them):encouragement::beguiled:

Are you fucking kidding me. I don't believe we've been lied to for years, I think that link is bullshit. I am 65 and have been drinking milk all my life and for about the past 40 years lots of it. I don't mean a glass here and there either. Milk is my main choice of drink and there are days I go through a 4 liter jug a day and my bones are strong and I am no where near calcium deficient.
All you people go ahead and be vegans and eat synthetic meat. Me, I will continue to drink milk, eat real beef, pork and poultry like I have been doing all my life.

You don't need those stats to know vegans nutrient deficient. Just look at them!

Canadian milk does not contain any antibiotics, growth hormone or steroids. Growth hormones are only approved for use in cows used for beef, not poultry or pork.

What's concerning to me touches on your remark. The ones that want to drink their meat as a shake or reduce food to just nutrients are missing what is most important: eating is a wonderful activity, full of ritual, preparation, anticipation and enjoyment. Moving away from what natural cuts you off from the real world and most of all damages their chances to have a beautiful and healthy relationship with food. Humans need the different sights, smells and textures in what they eat for many reasons. I'm personally jealous of my grandfathers generation where they could buy Black Tartarian cherries, Wealthy apples, Damson plums etc. Fruit and vegetable breeds that are long gone (with a few exceptions) and be replaced by bland varieties that travel better. Maybe I'm becoming a grumpy old man but I want my apples to taste like an apple, not that abomination in the grocery store called a Red Delicious.

As we've grown further apart from being connected to our food source, it's effecting our health. Plus I just read a great book on food forgery. What kind of world will kids 30 yrs from now know when they are drinking their protein meals and never knowing the exquisite joy of a rare strip loin steak cooked to perfection?

Grumpy old man rant end*
