While I think Tony Robbins is a con man, I do agree with his philosophy of overcoming your fears. For many $$$$$$$$$$$ you can go fly to his home in Fuji and do stuff where you conquer fears or you can do a tough mudder for a lot less $$$. Beats the fuck out of his firewalk and as a bonus you do not have to listen to Tony Robbins talk about how brilliant he is while his minions cheer like a Nuremberg rally

Tough Mudder is an endurance event in which participants attempt military-style obstacle courses. The obstacles often play on common human fears, such as fire, water, electricity and heights. The main principle of the Tough Mudder revolves around teamwork. The Tough Mudder organization values camaraderie throughout the course, designing obstacles that encourage group participation.

All I know is that it seems to be all the rage for the single ladies, especially cougars, to have a pic of themselves doing a tough mudder. Like it's a badge of honour and they are some kind of athlete for having done one.

Talking to one lady about this, she said it was a team style event. So you try to finish as a team, going at the pace of your slowest participant.

Never understood these, seems so contrived. For 1st world office workers who want to feel more gritty and shit but still want their Stella beer afterwards and have something to chat about Mon morning around the water cooler.

Yup

It is something totally different and challenging and definitely something to talk about

All good reasons it seems to me

I wonder what kind of conditioning is required

Does everyone do the same level or are you separated into levels of conditioning?

Well maybe you should try being a Boarder. I find putting up the drywall boards easier not to fuck up than applying the 3 coats of mud and sanding.

The local one is at a ski hill so you should at least be fit enough to get (walk) up a big hill. They're designed for a wide range of people and the amount of conditioning required depends on what you want to achieve or get out of it. If you just want to finish, you just need to be healthy and in reasonable condition. If an obstacle is really too tough even with friends helping you can go around it.
The Tough Mudder is not a chip-timed race, there's no time penalty for skipping an obstacle. And sometimes there is a line-up for an obstacle so you (and your team) have to wait.

For anyone looking for a more social and fun event I recommend the City Chase. It's like The Amazing Race in that you walk/run/take public transit all over the city (mostly downtown) solving clues, doing crazy, silly, daring, and other challenges.

Corporate types use it as a TEAM building exercise, unfortunately heard some of the obstacle have an option to go around IF participant fails to conquer obstacle. Defeats purpose of receiving that finisher headband when participants didn't really earn it.

Just my 2 cents,
