I also found this inappropriate, but I don't know if this was to be considered a leftist thing, like Cherry says , most right wingers say all life matters and BLM is not happy with it.

totally inappropriate and offensive, Canada is above petty politics; its anthem needs to be respected

Cherry is a fucking idiot.

The "All Lives Matter" folks tend to be RWNJ's.

Tenors' O Canada rendition riles Don Cherry

I don't always agree with Don Cherry on his antics, but this time he is bang on 100 percent, Remigio Pereira was born in the US,
I don't support what he did to the anthem and I think he was stupid for doing it, but I think the born in the US thing is irrelevant here.

Pereira was born in Boston to Portuguese parents, but he and his family moved to Ottawa before he was six months old.

Maybe they tend to be, but not in this case. Cherry is spot on.

The only idiot is the American tenor who decided to play politics with Canada's anthem.

I think it would have been spectacular if they did the US anthem, and ended with, "The land of the free, where all lives matter".

Probably would end up with a bullet in the head if he did that.
then it isn't the land of the free,.......but really, are we still taking political or social advice from Don Cherry? NOT FUCKING ME........ love the guy for what he is, an entertaining hockey analyst. The world is currently going insane ( if you don't believe me, watch what happens in Cleveland next week) and this guy was trying to be inclusive and promote healing. The rednecks do not own "All lives matter". It needs to be understood in context. And artists can do what they want to the anthems IMHO. Nobody put a bullet in Roseann Barr's head. The most offensive thing is when anthems are used at sporting events to drum up support for wars of aggression. Maybe anthems should be removed from sports altogether ( and Cherry should stop talking about cops and the troops too)

Nobody said they were taking his advice, just hearing his opinion. Just like we heard your opinion about what artists can do to anthems if they so choose. We don't have to agree with it, but it doesn't hurt to hear it. Cherry should stop talking about cops and troops? Well, I guess that too is only an opinion, but one that flies in the face of freedom of speech. A bit of a hypocritical opinion, in my opinion.

Cherry's heart in the right place but like most of us, education in the facts would make everyone a better person.....

The problem with his logic is that AllLivesMatter has already been shunned as minimizing the role of Blacks even further. If he really wanted to promote inclusiveness and healing, how about actually making a thoughtful and complete statement instead of inserting a few words into a song? People these days have a nasty habit of trying to jam complex ideas into 160 characters. The race problem is a complex one that demands more than a hashtag. Besides, what does a privileged Italian know racism in America?

No singer should ad lib with or change the lyrics of any national anthem. WTF?!

It's so stupid. It sounded tacky too.

It is a sporting event. They don't talk about astro physics because it is not pertinent. Either is war or the troops or the cops. It is a hockey game. And as far as hypocrasy goes, this is a forum that is loosely monitored and anybody can chirp in.... Cherry is hired to talk about hockey ( the only thing he is expert at) and he is the only one who gets to talk and if Ron disagrees, Don drowns him out and calls him a fag.

If they had called their movement "Black Lives Also Matter" or "Black Lives Matter Too" a lot more people would support them.

No. Those minor semantic changes would have had little impact.

That was obviously what BLM originally meant.

I'm not sure which I care less about.
What Cherry says or what the tenors do.
